My compaq cq50 screen goes to black for no reason

  • Anonymous Mar 12, 2009

I can see the compaq logo then it boots to a black screen. I can hear the windows chime but can't see anything. I can boot in normal mode. I did a system recovery and it worked for a little while. Then the auto updates installed and the problem started again. I have already sent it back for this reason and the only thing they replaced were memory modules.

Does it come back if you move the mouse or hit the keyboard?

If so it could be set in a couple of places.

Right click on your desktop , go to Personalize > Screen saver and verify your settings there.

It may also be in power options , go to start > control panel > hardware and sound > power options . Select change when the computer sleeps and adjust the settings there.

Compaq Presario CQ50 notebook screen goes fuzzy when opened to a certain angle (about 90 degrees). Wires being pinched at the hinges? If so how do I go about repairing this?

it sounds like you've damaged the cable that goes from your graphincs card to your screen or when you move it to 90degrees it's disconnecting. it's usually caused by someone opening the laptop and not putting the cable back in the right place, or loose screws in your hinges or a broke hinge. there are plently of videos showing how to open it up. follow one of them and make sure your wires are sitting in the right place, you don't have loose screws and the hinges aren't broken.

Black sreem on a compaq labtop cq50-215NR compaq

1 disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery from the laptop
2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
3. replace the battery and connect the ac adapter to the laptop
4. turn On the notebook and check.

If the issue persists, restart the notebook and press F10 to check if you see the BIOS screen. If you cannot see the BIOS screen then the issue could be hardware issue and your laptop needs to be repaired

Can you see what's on the screen if you hold it under a light? Did the screen die suddenly or were there more symptoms?

My Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop won't boot up. The compaq screen comes up then it just goes to a black screen with a cursor at the top. I tried to run Norton Internet Security 2010 but all it does is ask...

Try another hard drive in the system, sounds like the drive is going bad, then after replacing the hard drive, then go ahead and recover the system. Bad sectors on a hard drive can make it where it won't restore.

If you can get your hands on a windows boot disk, then you can try to format the hard drive, wiping it out and installing it can fix that problem as well.

FS050UA , COMPAQ PRESARIO NOTEBOOK PC CQ50-210US the screen has lines and a black spot

Hi,
Turn on the notebook and press F10 to get into BIOS screen. Even if the lines and the black spot appears then the issue is with the internal hardware of the notebook.
To check further connect an external monitor to the notebook and press Fn and F4 keys on the keyboard to get the display on external monitor. If the external monitor display is fine then the issue is with the LCD screen or else the issue is with the Video card of the notebook.

Black screen

If you had Problems that caused you to do a System Recovery, it Sounds like it could be your Harddrive.
