Question about Poulan Wild Thing 2375 18" Gas Chain Saw 2.5 Cuin

1 Answer

Mcculloch 3216 starts few seconds and dies, choke must be closed.

I have put in new fuel lines but not sure if both lines need to go into the bottom of fuel tank and which way to hook up the pump bulb as **** or push to the carb.
1 line feeds directly into the carb and 1 line goes to the fuel bulb then to the carb.

I put new lines in the 3216 Mac and it starts and stills right away. I thought the lines must be wrong but I don't see how it would work any other way. I have tried many choke positions and get the same result. I have one line going to the bulb then to the carb, and the other from the carb back into the tank. I must be missing something because when I first found the lines in pices I found one that had but cut lengthwise, and must have served a purpose, but no idea what.

Starts but only runs for a few seconds. Can put choke back on, pull a few times and it starts again. Put choke in off position and it will run for a few more seconds reviving the engin then dies.

This is fuel starvation, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hoses up to the carb for signs of leaking or cracks, if this does not help, then there is a fuel screen in the carb, it is situated ubder the fuel pump cover, this is the alluminium cover held with a single screw, you may be able to remove this cover without removing the carb, depends on the orientation of the carb on the machine.

How to run the fuel hoses for the MAC 3516. Most of the hoses have fallen apart so retracing the hoses is problematic

A McCulloch Mac 3516 model 21-600032-83 IPL example follows (may not be your saw):
The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for fuel line routing and it is sketchy at best; components are listed but may be on different illustrations.
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/MCC/22-600032-83-Mac-3216-IPL-211229-01/139.22-600032-83-Mac-3216-IPL-211229-01.1.59.1.html

If the above is not your saw, yours can be located here:
McCulloch IPLs
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/McCulloch/139.59.html

A typical fuel system and a couple of tips follow:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3706813-_cycle_fuel_system_repair
If properly plumbed your saw will run with carb to primer hose capped off.

I own a mccullogh 610 pro mac chainsaw left by the previous owner of our house. Unfortunately, there is no user manual. I am not familiar with chainsaws and am having trouble starting it. I put in a new...

You do know a chain saw is a 2-cycle engine and requires a mixture of Fuel and 2-cycle oil? This saw is probably 40:1 (1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil).
My procedure is better than the one in your manual anyway. LOL
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
McCulloch Manuals
Operators Manuals: are much more difficult. I have dialed this number many times (Contact Us - All McCulloch Products 1 (800) 521-8559) and have yet to get a satisfactory response. Please try this! If enough of us try they will fix it! If unsuccessful with McCulloch try here:

Is the fuel mix less than 1.5 months old?
Are the fuel lines routed like this?

Test the ignition system. Inspect the plug; is it wet (99.5 % of 2-cycle start problems are flooded)? If you have not already install a new plug.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

If the plug was not wet and you have spark; remove, clean, and reinstall the muffler and spark arrestor. I will give you that you already cleaned the air filter, remove it turn off the choke, put a teaspoon of fuel into the carburetor throat, and reinstall the air filter.

Use this start procedure - Read Cold 3, read it again. At the first hint it fired OPEN the choke.
I am going to close this. I am still here and more than willing to help or answer questions. just continue as you have already. I think there is still old fuel in lines and and dark corners of the carb. it will clear once we get it to run for a few minutes. Remember I cannot see what you are doing or have done, brevity helps neither of us. Post back with the results from above, hopefully she runs. Good Luck

Mcculloch 3516 chain saw, does not always start.

It must have spark, fuel and compression to run. Your task is to figure out which is missing.
Sometimes electrical components quit operating once beyond a certain temperature. Does it always start cold and become tempermental when warm?
IMO most hard start problems on a chainsaw with a good fuel delivery system are flooded.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
The 3516 is a MTD McCulloch (Chinese). These saws are in a class by themselves. Good Luck

McCulloch 3216 fuel primer and gas tubes routing?

fbb4e12.gif
Fuel Line Replacement by SmallEng.com

  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, the output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill the bulb as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.
Take lots of notes and a few digital photographs will help with reassembly. HTH

Chainsaw Mcculloch 310 powermac not running

Change the air filter.. Try starting it without the air filter in.. See if it will run..

If it sat for a long time the fuel will shellac in the carb and cause it to not work the way it is supose to..
In these cases the carb would need to be cleaned and rebiult...

Good luck

Trying to get McCulloch MS354 35cc chainsaw started

Stiff usually means good compression. So, pump the fuel bulb, put your foot on the flat in the handle, lock the throttle open using the button on top, set choke all the way out and pull. It should kick after a few pulls. Then close choke half way, and pull until it starts, then push choke all in. If it doesn't start, disconnect spark plug and take it out. Have someone watch while the sparkplug is held against metal engine to see if there is a good spark at the plug. If not maybe needs new coil. look at plug to see if it is wet, ie, gas is getting to it to isolate problem to carburetor.
