The DE code that you are seeing means the refrig is not sensing a defrost cycle. There ar 3 possible causes,

  • first and most likely is a shorted defrost heater heres the part number WR51X10055 this part is less than 50.00. If you are mechanicaly inclined it is a very easy repair that would take about an hour to complete.

  • Second would be a bad defrost sensor this part turns the heater off to prevent over heating or possible fire. this is also a part of the heater assy mentioned in the first possiblity and I recomend replacing the heaters along with the sensor.

  • Last and least likely would be the computer control board located on the rear of the refrig. again this part is an easy repair the part number is WR55X10775 and cost is around 250.00 in my experience this is only the problem about 10% of the time
If you are not sure about doing this repair your self you can manually defrost the unit by off loading your food and unplugging the refig leave the doors open for about 4-8 hours to allow the unit to defrost manualy. this will get the unit working temporarily until you can have it repaired.
If you would like instructions for replacing any of these parts message me back and I'll walk you thru it.  thanks Peyton

Hi, do you mean the signal to stop cooling is faulty?
I guess the thermostat is faulty. Its the one which detects the temperature and send signals to the circuit.

the problem here is the defrost element is not coming on, the problem is the control board in the fresh food compartment is defective and not telling the element to defrost. Therefore your cooling coils are impacted with ice which keeps freezer cold, and sensor in freezer says everything is ok and therefore sends nothing to refrigerator. Replace the defrost control board, Thaw out the cooling coils in freezer, and your back in business

KENMORE ELITE REFRIGERATOR MODLE #106.53606201

Compressor is cycling on the overload protector. If refrigerator is over five years old the warranty may be expired. I which case I never recommend replacing the compressor if the customer is to bear the full expense.

Yes try to turn with a screw driver if possible. If it start working replace timer. If not it can be low on freon you would see frosting but no cooling.

Your condenser coil is frozen up with condensate...need to fix the defrost system, most likely it is the control sub module.
