The screen resolution on your data projector may not be able to display the screen resolution set by your laptop.
Adjust your laptop's screen resolution say 1024X768 first then adjust it up or down to see the effect.
You can do this from the Control Panel - Display - Settings. There is no need to reboot the laptop for the settings to take place.

When i connect projector to computer it just says searching and my presentation wont show up on screen

Hello.

Look at your computer's function (F) keys. See which one has either a screen symbol or the words "CRT/LCD". Typically, it's the F4 or F8 key.

Hold down the Fn key and press that F key and after the first, second or third try, the presentation on the computer should display on your projector's screen.

Hope this helps.

I am using a Sharp LCD projector XG-E1000UB. I do not have a manual...how do i project a smaller image..the image from the DVD player is huge..i want to project it on a screen in my backyard...

Although you can change the image size +- 10% from the projector ring, if you need to reduce the size significantly you will need to the reduce the throw of the image by moving he projector closer to the sreen.

Can't work projector with computer.

When you connect the data projector to the laptop, power up the projector then the laptop. The laptop will automatically switch the video to the projector.
If you power up the laptop first the you need to switch the video output to the external video port by press and hold the Fn key and then press one of the functions keys that has a screen symbole on it, by repeating this again you can toggle between the projector and the LCD screen, even having the both displayed at the same time.
If you still have a problem, then the screen resolution is set too high and the video won't display on the projector, reduce the screen resolution to 1024x768 to see if it works, if not you may need to reduce it further.

Hooking up projector to my computer

If it's a laptop, you might need to activate the vga output, using the blue "fn" button in combination with f4,f6, f7 or f8, depending on your manufacturer.

On an HP, you press FN+F4 once, to turn off the LCD, and use the projector. Press it again to run both at the same time, and press a third time to use just the LCD. The cycle repeats on each press.

No picture

You may need to reduce the resolution on your comptuer screen. Try going to Control Panel, Display, and Settings and lowering the resolution a notch or two.
Also, you must make sure that the computer is set to send the signal to the external monitor,. That usually means holding down the Function key and pressing the F5 key or the one with the picture of two monitors on it. You will see several options for display. Toggle with the F5 key to the one that shows the computer screen and the external monitor at the same time.
