Its not compatible as "webcam mode" which is what essentially you are trying to do. it wont allow you to preview on the PC before you snap the photo unless the cam is compatible, which this model is not.

I believe you have to take the pictures and then hook up your usb cable and transfer them to your computer. Unless your camera has an S-Video cable and your laptop has a TV_Video card.

Yes you can just simply connect the camera via usb to your laptop and double click my computer and you can see your camera there and then you can already view the photo from it..

Maybe those shots you took were in the raw mode, If so then you have to convert them with the Nikon software that camera with the camera,to view them in your laptop, Try installing that software then view them again, Hope this helps,

I have a Kodak Digital camera and had 190 photos on the SD card which we viewed on the laptop and now cannot view them on the camera. Please can you tell me what to do.

It may be happen SD card error, you can formatted it and it will re-used again. but do this way, your photos will be lost. you can copy your photos to your laptop. if you have lost your photos without backup. you can recover photos from SD card by hodo photo recovery software, the free download site:

Nikon d40 motnior blank while taking picture.

That's entirely correct. Live view cannot work on SLR's whilst the photo is being taken due to the requirement for the mirror and live view sensor to flip out of the way during image capture.

Live view on SLR cameras is a misleading description, it's really a live preview instead.

I am unable to see all the photos on the camera after viewing the memory card on a laptop. They are still present on the card (85 files) but on the camera I get the message "File contains no image data"...

I can't tell you exactly why all your photos became unavailable on your camera, but I do know that many digital cameras as well as handheld media devices (zunes, sansas etc) are very fussy when it come to the images stored on them. They write index files describing what is stored on them, and yes, if your alter any files using a computer after they were imported and indexed, they will disappear from view on the device. I am surprised that all your photos no longer show up, not just the ones whose orientation was altered.

I recommend moving your photos to your laptop and using your camera to reformat your memory card. I am unaware of any way to coax them into being viewed on your camera once they have been shunned.

If your laptop has a video or hdmi input or whatever your camera supports on it's video output then you can, otherwise you may need to get a pcmcia adapter for your laptop that will allow you to view what the camera sees before you take a photo. Happy snapping.

Displays file error message when trying to playback still images and video footage

Did you take the card and insert into computer/device to view photos?

Viewing photos can alter the format of the photos thereby preventing your camera from reading them.

I viewed some photos and rotated a few photos and my camera no longer recognizes the format.

    good luck

LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.
