Just pulled the Playstation 1 out of a box. It hasn't been used for about 6 years. I've hooked it up to the TV. ..Turned it on...I get a "SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT" picture on the TV...But when I put in a game disc (Panzer General) nothing happens...I don't hear the disc turning, and I have no instruction manual.
What's next?
When you open the lid there is a piece of plastic that pushes down a button that tells the unit to start spinning the disc.
With the unit off, open the lid. Power on the unit leaving the lid open, make sure game is in place. After the playstation loads take a toothpick and press down the button that would normally be depressed by the lid closing in the back right side.
Keep holding down the button for a few seconds. If the disc does not start to spin then give disc an each kick start counter clockwise. You might have some dust preventing it from spinning, make sure the disc lens (on the black thing that is under the disc) is clean.
If it starts spinning, close the lid and there you go.
I would try cleaning the laser lens.

You really might want to try creating the connections again on your PS3 system on the same modem/router you are using.
Just re-configure you connection settings and see if that helps.

I tried using the toothpick method shaunvfx suggested...No effect. I looked at the laser lens...It appears clean. I have heard that wiping it with a cleaning solution is a no-no. At any rate, no light emits from the laser lens after using the toothpick starter method. Me thinks I just have a bad set.
Any other suggestions?
