Question about Samsung Digimax A40 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Format error I have a Samsung digimax A40 camera. I 've just purchased a Lexar 4gb SDHC card. When I've tried to format the card for use, the screen comes up initially with "card error", then a screen to format - yes/no. When I press on yes, it takes a few moments and then comes up with Format Error, and turns itself off. Any suggestions on how to overcome this? We are heading away on holiday soon and wanted a bigger sd card as I currently only have a 256mb card in it. Thanks, Tracey.

I don't believe the camera can handle a card of that size. I believe the camera only supports up to 512MB cards, anything above that is not guaranteed.

The reason why is because that particular camera does not support memory cards that big.  Samsung only guarantees compatability up to 512MB, but the max I have ever heard working is 1GB.  If you do buy one, make sure it is a sandisk card as these have been tested and guaranteed to work in that camera.  Lexar may also work, but for sure 4GB is to big and is unsupported.  Hope it helps.  Please dont forget to rate!

When I insert a SanDisk SD card 2GB it tells me there is a card error, is it the card itself?

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

I put a new sd card in my camera and it says check sd card. It wont let me take pictures what does that mean

I purchased a 8gig sd card and tried to put it in

The camera only supports SD memory (limit 2GB), not SDHC (4GB and more). The manual claims up to 1GB guaranteed, though the camera recognizes my 2GB card card.

I have a NV10, it will not format the lexar 4GB SDHC memory card I bought, all it says is format error

The NV10 will not accept SDHC type memory cards. The largest card you will find it takes is a 2GB card of the SD type (not SDHC). The camera is not SDHC compliant, unfortunately. If you can return the 4GB Lexar, swap it for a 2GB of the non-SDHC variety. If this answers your question fully, please rate the solution accordingly. Thanks

Tried to unlock Lexar SD 2GB and Lexar SDHC 4 GB - No luck

First of all, the 4GB card will never be able to work in your camera. Check on its face. It likely says SDHC, and SDHC cards as this format came out after your camera was designed (I know it looks exactly like a normal SD card, but it's not).

Now the 2GB card should work with your camera as it is a standard SD card. Remove the card from your camera. Look on the side of the card for the tiny slide switch, and slide it to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert it in the camera, and see if that corrects the problem.

Lexar Platinum II 4GB sd card won't work on my Polaroid PDC 3070

That card is not compatible with that camera. It's too large for an older model like that. Backup the card's contents and format it. It should work in newer models but probably not the PDC 3070.
