I can't figure out how to use my wd my book 640gb on my laptop

My laptop reconizes the drive but where do i go from there?

Well, if the laptop recognizes it, you will need to format it frist before using it.  The supplied software disk that you got with the drive should have all the tools you need.  After that, just go to "My Computer" and the hard drive should be listed.  You can transfer or save files to it from there.

If the drive electronics weren't also fried, you may be able to remove the drive from the enclosure and install it in an empty external drive case like is done in this YouTube video:

The person that created that video did not mention the make and model number of the replacement enclosure, but you should be able to find on online or at a local computer shop.

files must be "imported" into your new mail program.
the new computer may have a newer or different version.

My WD external does not connect well to my laptop.


sounds like the drive heads are broken or out of line the unit you have does require a power cord its the data cord that it doesn't need , suggestion is to remove the driver heads and replace them with new ones from a matching Drive , its all you can do to save your vital files , if you are willing to replace your heads I can assist you however its not an easy task

WD 640gb my book not seen in my computer on my desk top, it seen


1. this is usually due to a usb drive being disconnected improperly.
2. the drive may still be working but the usb electronics in the drive case may be malfunctioning.
3. You may have to take the drive out of said case and plug it into another usb drive case.
4. you can remvove the drive from the usb case and put it in a docking station to read the information.

the problem is inside the disk,if the hard drive have its warranty return it to store where you bought it,replace it brand new

Wrong Power Adapter


Yes.If the voltage range exceeds the limit,"astalavista baby."
If the voltage is was below recommended,try plugging in Power Only,turn on,leave for a minutes.This should adjust the voltage regulator back to normal.
