If you have recently used an HDMI cable, or other HD output, your Ps3 may still be set up for such a connection. If that's the case, you can try.. 1. connecting with AV cables while your system is OFF. 2. Then, hold down the power button. Your console will beep once, keep holding it down until you hear a SECOND beep. That resets your audio and video output to SD again. Hope this helps.
It is a known problem with some high def connectors not working properly. The following should be checked before concluding there is a problem 1. Ensure you have your TV tuned to the right output station for as your ps3 is connected.(for example you cannot have your ps3 connected to the second set of av ports on your tv and your tv is on av1, it has to be on av2) 2. Cross-check the functionality of your ps3 using the default av cables that come with it so as to know if your cable or console is faulty. 3. Ensure that you high-def cables are properly connected. If all the above prove abortive, you have to see a repairer to check-up your ps3 or tv
If your tv output it av (red white and yellow cables and av connection), then make sure you push the cables in properly. If that doesn't work then if you have a ps2, use that av cable and switch it with your ps3 one (theyre both the same). And if your output is hdmi, than either the cable is faulty, the tv or the ps3. And for av connection if none of those options worked then its probably your ps3.
First make sure that all of the connections are securely connected. If it still doesn't work try another set of cables. Also ensure that your setup menu on the PS3 is set to the correct resolution. If you are using the standard definition connection (3 RCA type connections labeled VIDEO L-AUDIO-R) make sure your resolution is set to 480i. If all of those steps are correct and you still can't get it to work then your Analog Video board might be defective. You will have to get this serviced by your local PS3 repair center.
To solve this, when the ps3 is in standby (solid red light), just hold the power button. It should beep on, then beep again in about 5 seconds. This will automatically search for the optimal audio video output. if if beeps on then turns off, just try again, it takes 1 or 2 tries sometimes. the reason this is happening is because your ps3 is set to one AV output, ex. composite(red yellow white), HDMI, and then you changed the cable to a different one. another way to fix it is plug both cables, HDMI and composite, into the tv and ps3, then go to settings and change the output to the desired one.
