Re: Dirty copies along the right and left edges of paper
In this unit the fuser is called the Fixing unit. It would be difficult to replace if you are not familiar with repairing this unit.
You may have to have someone look at it and give you an estimate on the cost effectiveness of repairing or replacing the unit.
If you feel you can fix it here is the link for the service manual. In the middle you will see the word Multipart and acroos from it you will see the numbers 0,1,2,3.Click on each number to download it. These are 4 parts of the manual you have to download before extracting part 1. http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=36040
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe

This is a common problem with some HP printers. The fuser sleeve inside the fuser assembly gets torn along the edge and print can no longer be fused in that area and the paper will crinkle there. The only solution would be to replace the fuser, which for that printer it would not be worth repairing.
Inside these machines is a rather large, black sheet that is known as the transfer belt. This belt acts to transfer the toner from the drum to the paper, Though if the outside edges of these sheet become worn or mucked up with excess toner, it will produce a copy with vertical bands of toner. In order to attempt to clean this belt, you must first shut the machine off, then open the from cover and locate the transfer belt (may need to remove the toner in order to make it visible,) then, with a damp cloth (water) gently wipe it along with the grain of the belt. Repeat this step until no residual toner appears on the transfer belt, then reconnect everything and print several test pages. If the problem does not reappear, then you are all set. However, if the dirty edges begin to come back, you will need to replace the transfer belt as the wear marks on it are trapping toner and not allowing it to be cleaned properly.
Please keep me informed on your progress and I will help the best I can.
If it is right along the edge then the drum (well the cleaning blade of the drum) is faulty. In a unit like that I suspect it is all part of a toner cartridge. Try replacing that and I think you will be good.
If the smudges are gradually fading then it's likely just excess toner hitting the fuse drum. Try a few cleaning cycles/test prints and see if that makes it go away. If not, see if you can get a replacement toner.
Hi, try to pull out complete process unit(cartridge) with toner box .You have cleaner(blue or green color) move this cleaner from right to left side 4 or 5 times.Note that cleaner MUST be in home position-right side when you finish.Check print.
If problem still persists, you must do following:take away small grey plastic cap on left side of cartridge, then push complete charge corona(part with cleaner on top of it) to left side just enough to lift right side of corona from cartridge.Pull out that corona and you can see drum and developer roller. Turn the gear on drum, and look for smudges on black developer roller.Try to clean smudges with brush or with dry cloth.Toner will again attract to that area, but regular.
