Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

This dishwasher (MAYTAG DWU6402AAE) is 12 years old, and recently started having a problem with the water. I'm not convinced it's spraying or even rinsing. The soap doesn't drain from the container. Dishes are not getting clean. I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to fix this before I call in a repairman. I'm very handy, and can follow instructions. Thanks. Mike

You may need to clean out the filters that keep food from being pumped up to spray out of the sprayers. This will depend on your make and model as to how to do this. Clogged filters will reduce the amount of water being sprayed. Try opening the door mid cycle to see if there is a vigorous spraying action. If the water being sprayed is underwhelming, it may be clogged filters.

Dishwasher is leaving a white film on dishes. Tried using less cascade. Washer is about 15 years old. Our water is in the safe zone for hardness, also its well water. Just started this recently.

Maytag MBDF550Aww upper spray arm doesn't spin.

Cleaning the filter was the right thing to try.
Since you don't see cracks/breaks on the spray arm and it appears that it is spinning freely, I doubt that replacing the spray arm will fix your problem.
If your dishwasher is several years old, your problem is likely a failing pump motor, but before you swap that out, check that the impeller is not damaged. Good Luck!

water level/float switch is stuck. (dishwasher is getting a indication the unit has enough water in it to operate)...repair/replace float switch, located in front right corner under bottom rack.

Possibly not enough water pressure

It is possible that the valve is not letting enough water through or the spray arms are not distributing it as neccessary for whatever reason it may even be that the motor is weakening with age. If you do the labor yourself it might be worth replacing a part but it is kind of hit miss on what to replace. Appliances average 7-10 years these days. In all honesty if it were my choice to make I'd put the money toward a new dishwasher. Good Luck.

Maytag dishwasher mdb9600awb - loud pump

This has happened a few times to me as well.(VERY VERY LOUD NOISE AT THE BOTTOM)I have the same model It did stop.I did a little reading and came to the conclusion that it was the built in food disposer chopping blades were chopping up something like a cherry pit or peach pit and once an end of a wooden spoon that dropped down.If you look at your USE and care Guide on page 12 under trouble shooting "Dishwasher seems noisy"..I went through the same thing taking things apart. Its got to be it. Mine is 2 1/2 years as well. Hope this helps. ronkeachie@rogers.com

Leaky float valve

Teresa, the water fill is usually a timed fill and the float assy. is a safety device to cut power to the fill valve in the event the dishwasher keeps filling. ( In most models). Sounds like your initial fill is just above the float lever actuator and dripping. Check the level of the dishwasher to make sure that the water is not higher toward the front. Catriver..post back.
