Question about Gateway 819GM (RB819GM) PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have a gateway 819GM I want to save more photos into a disk, and I want to view photos I have saved into disks. Can't open that drawer! I push the button next to the drawer, it makes some noise as if it's trying to open, but something is preventing it from openning. I then go to My computer, click on DVD-Ram, click on Eject This Disk. Same thing. I hear noises like it's attempting to open, but the drawer won't open. Thanks for any advice Ora

Thanks but I don't know how to do it.

    Is it easy to do?

My husband was able to open the panel on the side but he didn't see a loose belt.

I am thinking of taking it in to a hardware guy, but wonder if he is going to overcharge me for a simple belt problem.

Thank you for any additional suggestion

    Thanks.

I don't know if the "drive" in this case is a hardware piece which we would need to physically install or is it a software kind of drive that you can buy on the internet and install electronically.

    Thanks again

I will know how to rate the help when we are done with this, in the meantime I really appreciate your trying to help.

    Thanks.

When I google the words "DIDE DVD-RW drive"

Google asked if I mean "IDE DVD-RW drive"

I think that's right, we will investigate further at an electronics store. You have been very helpful.

If I need further clarification, I'll come back.

    Thanks

it would be cheaper to replace the drive as you can purchase for around 40 dollars he will charge you quite a bit more just for labor.

    hope this helped
    please rate well.

the drive is a hardware piece that you would purchase at an electronics store that sells computer parts. you need to tell them that you want an "EIDE DVD-RW drive". they will help you find the right one. once you see the drive you will see it is pretty easy to install if you don't feel comfortable they will do it for you will cost 10 to 30 dollars for the install service. this will take care of your problem.

Recivery disk

The recovery disk is nothing more than an Windows install disk with all the drivers already in. If you don't have it then install Windows using any other Windows disk and your key and download, save and install the drivers manually after that.
You can find them here

My 200GB Maxtor has somehow changed from the storage drive to a local drive. Now Windows can't open this drive for viewing and keeps asking me to format the drive. It was working fine till last weekend as...

Suggestion 1:

Try exploring the drive from Disk Management:
1. Click Start
2. Right-click My Computer
3. Select Manage
4. Select Disk Management
5. Right-click the inaccessible drive and select Explore

Suggestion 2:

If that doesn't work, try changing the drive letter:

1. Click Start
2. Right-click My Computer
3. Select Manage
4. Select Disk Management
5. Right-click on the inaccessible drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths
6. Click the Change button
7. Select a different letter from the available drop down menu
8. Click OK>OK

Perform the same steps from suggestion 1.

If the drive is still inaccessible, it's likely that somehow the NTFS master file table (MFT) has become corrupt which is causing Windows to believe it needs to be formatted. Unfortunately, it's not an easy to task to return the file system back to its correct state.

It may be possible to use a file recovery application such as Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery to recover the lost data. It's relatively cheap for one of those programs and may help you save a good chunk of your data. Here is the link to Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery:

http://www.stellarinfo.com/

I used it once when I forgot to format my memory card in my camera. I was able to save 230/250 photos.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

The eject button on my VRDMC5 DVD recorder does not work at all.

When idsk is not recognized it is because the laser mechanism can no longer focus on the disk. If this happens with all disks then the unit is fubar and it is time to go shopping since repair is not cost effective.

As I was powering up my laptop I opened the cd drawer placed a disk in it. Now it won't close. Tried rebooting, hitting the tab and closing, control panel open drawer, nothing seems to work ????

If the door has shut then look at the facia of the dvd panel and there should be a small hole in it

Get a strong paperclip and push it into the hole, that will eject the drawer

If you have jammed it in real tight get someone else to push the paperclip in the hole while you carefully use two blunt knives to lever on the sides of the drawer

Worse case scenario is that you have to take out the two screws on the base of the laptop and remove the drive altogether to gain access

MY DVD/CD DRIVE DOES NOT WORK IT WILL NOT READ THE DISC cannot play dvd,cds or load or make dvds or cds

Open the drawer.
Insert a disk, rotating the disk so that the writing on the face of the disk is "level".
(Imagine a clock-face on the disk; rotate the disk to make the writing go from "9" to "3",
not "10" to "4", nor "12" to "6".)
Close the drawer.
Wait a minute (to see if the disk should automatically start spinning).
Hold down the "Windows-flag" key on your keyboard, and touch (once) the 'E' key.
Wait a few seconds.
Open the drawer.
Is the disk still at the "9-to-3" position?
If so, then the CD-drive has *NOT* read the disk at all, and it needs to be replaced.

Try the above with the same disk in another computer, to see how it _should_ work.

Then, shutdown your computer.
Turn it on.
Look for the message: "Press DEL to enter setup".
Quickly, press the DEL key.
When you see the "setup" menu, press ENTER.
You should see at least 4 similar lines:
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO
AUTO ... AUTO

If you see 'NONE' anywhere, press the TAB key (or the DOWN-arrow key) until that 'NONE' is highlighted, and press PG-UP/PG-DOWN until it changes to AUTO.
Repeat for each 'NONE'.
Press ESC once to return to the "main-menu".

Press RIGHT-arrow and DOWN-arrow to highlight the "Detect Drives".
Press ENTER.
It should auto-detect your CD-drive, within 1 minute.
When it's finished detecting, press ESC.

Use the "arrow" keys to select 'SAVE CHANGES'.
Select it, and save the changes.
Let it reboot.

Now, is your CD-drive working?
Within Windows, hold-down the "Windows" key, and (once) touch the 'E' key.
Do you see an icon for the CD-drive?
If not, then the CD-drive is *NOT* physically-connected (either ribbon-cable or power-cable) to your computer's motherboard.

I'm unable to download photos from the disk.

You may be saving the images in the RAW format, which requires matching software to read. Most kiosks can't read them. If this is the case, switch back to jpeg format.

Disk full cannot finalize or transfer photos to computer

i agree with the first person. you cannot over fill a disk otherwise there is not enough room to finalise it. or does it do this with all disks? try resetting the camera on the bottom and set it back up. if you put your disk into a computer with a cdrw you can open the files from there as long as you have the dowload software installed on the same computer. just do not try to open or veiw the last photo otherwise it mayu lock up your computer.
