How do I get my Vostro 1000 to bootup

Try going into safe mode. Press F8 when you start the computer and then select "Safe Mode with networking" you should then be able to run a couple of diagnostic programs or a virus checker. You can even do a system restore from there.

I installed 'speed up your PC' by Uniblue and now my windows XP PC continually reboots to the advanced menu page where you have the option of a safe start, revert to previous settings and normal start. ...

Yes, you can use a Bart PE Boot CD. I've used it several times to do many repairs , even blue screens and fatal errors . Follow the steps exactly as I'm going to list them for you . (Before starting this, make sure the BART disk is already in the computer CD Drive. Don't worry if it spins up...It will load when you complete the following steps.) Also, be sure you are not connected to the Internet and if you have a wireless connection , disable it as you do not want to access the Internet while doing the repairs to your computer's XP system files .
1. from computer startup, press F1 or whatever keys to press to access your BIOS / CMOS utility screens to select "Boot Sequence" to change your boot device options to first boot device is CD ROM. Sometimes it will be the F12 key at startup to change "Boot Order"
Regardless the procedure you'll use , the the end result is that the CD Boots FIRST. Save changes and exit, usually by missing F10 if in BIOS. Regardless, we want the computer to boot the CD Drive from power ON.
2. Once the computer reboots from the CD ROM , be patient and don't press any keys while BART loads its files and applications .It will display several screens while loading up . The last task screen it will display should be the network support attempt to connect screen . After the program realizes there is no Internet network connection , it will display its inability to connect . Then the computer screen should look similar to the default XP desktop display.
3.left click your mouse on start (lower left of the screen ) . Several applications and tools will appear on the list . Scroll up to disk tools and select it or highlight it until the disk tools options appear . Select check disk . You'll notice two or three check disk options . Select the one that just says check disk. Left click on it to start the application . If you have selected the right one it will display a menu of options beginning with which drive you want a check and you will manually enter your C drive as per the exaple it shows. Then, it will prompt you for two specific details you will have to decide on. I don't remember the exact wording, however, I can tell you what you want to select . Select the " /r " (repair) option for sure. Also, select the thorough check option that "takes longer" to complete but recovers lost data and repairs clusters and sectors . Be sure to take your time and confirm your selections as required before the check disk application starts .
4. Once it starts to run , don't touch the computer . It may take awhile to complete the task . I've seen it take as long as 60 minutes to complete . Regardless , once it is finished it will display the details of what it found wrong and what it repaired If there were any problems or system errors on the hard drive . If it displays that it found errors and corrected them , close the application , THEN REMOVE THE CD , and finally, use the the standard shutdown procedures you normally use and select Restart.
5. Dont worry about the boot sequence , as it will default to your C: drive (hard drive) after it fails to boot from the CD ROM .
6. Hopefully, your computer will start and run normally .
7. If it doesn't , repeat the Bart CD loading procedure and try some of the other options available , such as the registry checker , etc. however , be very careful how you use the Bart disk tools as some of them are complicated to use and can cause irreversible hard drive failure if not properly run . Be careful . The check disk option has worked for me 80% of the time without having to do anything else . Good luck

My computer monitor was disabled so now it is black is there any way to reset it or enable the monitor?

Alyssa,
Two ways:
1. Power On the computer and get into the BIOS settings screen. The monitor will turn ON and allow you to view the menus. Select the integrated peripherals menu and set the "use internal vga" ON.

2. If your computer has a add-on video card, unplug the monitor cable from the internal monitor interface and connect it to the add-on video interface.

Acer Aspire 3610 laptop - Windows XP error

on a friend's Windows 98 SE or Windows ME computer, create a floppy "Startup disk". Insert in your pc floppy drive and turn on. If floppy drive was not accessed, then get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from floppy drive" is set prior to "boot from hard drive". Once at first screen, select "Boot with CD-ROM driver". Insert CD-ROM and initiate entire re-install of Windows. Windows may do some self-restarting. At first restart do this: get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from hard drive" is set prior to "boot from floppy drive".
