Hello,
the Slim version bring some technical improvements, but the overall game quality is pretty the same.
The Slim is smaller and lighter (about 1/4 of the size of its phatty predecessor) in fact. It also has greatly enhanced online gaming capabilities due to the presence of a new Ethernet port, network connection, and phone line.
Hope this helps,
good luck,
Peter
have you made a "network configuration file" ?.... you should have received a cd when you got your PS2, it should have something like Network Access Disk labeled on it somewhere, put that in your ps2, and just go through the prompts and do what it tells you to do... after you've saved the network configuration file to your memory card (uses something like 137Kb), now when you put in mercs2 and try and go online.. select the network connection you just made
The Ethernet port works with PS2 Games that are setup for Online play. This Port allows for Online plays with the PS2. If should not be that complicated when you have a online game loaded.
Which port the multitap goes into varies somewhat from game to game,
but normally, unless the game supports more than 4 players, it goes in
slot 1, with all controllers plugged into it including player 1
can only be wired cause i was asked that not to long ago sorry just buy a multi ethenet cable conneter and another ethenet cable to hook it up to your ps2 that's all i can think of
I experienced the same problem. I have the ps2 slim. The problem was so bad that i had the slim for about 3 years and still could not play any ea games online. About 2 months ago i finally got it to work though, allowing me to play madden ncaa and many other sports games from ea. I also have dsl broadband just like you. I do not have a router though. I just hooked my ethernet cord straight into the back on the ps2, my computer is really close by. I would reccomend a router though.
Enough of this bs though. Now solving the problem. There was actually a firewall keeping me from connecting to ea servers. Which in turn meant no ea account and no ea play online. Go onto your computer and turn your FIREWALLS OFF. This still may not work though. I done this and an unknown firewall was still blocking it. THERE WAS A FIREWALL IN MY MODEM.
CALL UP YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PEOPLE AND TELL THEM TO TAKE THE ******* THING OFF SO U CAN ******* PLAY. I ALSO FOUND THAT LIMEWIRE WOULD NOW WORK ON MY COMPUTER AS WELL.
By doing this you will open peer to peer connections with other programs and players online.
On some models, the Ethernet comes from a PC board searate from the Motherboard. Now you can get a motherboard replaced for under $60. Check out the playstationclinic. Nothing you can really do if the Ethernet Chip is blasted.
