Want to reset password on my c500 compaq presario laptop i bought it from a yard sale and cant get past log in password. i was looking for the bios jumpers and cmos battery.
You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password and privileges. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. is there not a jumper on the motherboard to reset bios? you could also try to remove the bios battery (a watch-type battery located directly on the motherboard)
you can flash bios most commonly by downloading the bios update to a floppy, and then booting with the floppy in the drive, but if you do it wrong, the end result will be a very expensive paperweight, hence flashing bios should be a last resort...

you have to open back side of ur laptop and u can find ur mother board...on that u can see cmos battery...

if for notebook im not too sure anyway for pc it should be remove casing cover and remove the battery and look for a 3 pin jumper

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
