Garage Door Wont Close Craftsman 1/2 HP (1998)

Replaced the gear and sprocket assembly as they were stripped. After connecting everything back together the hard wired panel button worked to open and close door. When I left a day later and tried to use remote it would start to go down about a foot and then reverse itself. Had to hold wall button down to close. Next day same problem wall button opened but remote wouldn't close, and this time holding wall button down took a few tries, sometimes it would get about 1/2 way down and then reverse while holding the button. Finally, third day wall button opened but remote wouldn't close and now wall button wont close. Sensors are aligned and lights are bright green and light responds when beam is broke. Increased the force but that didn't do anything. Light bulb does not flash and click like sensors think something is in way. Amber light on back flashes 5 times. Please help.

What it is is the electric beams at the door are getting blinded buy the sun or out of line. They are the two black boxes on both sides of the door about a foot from the ground. Put a piece of card board in front of them not blocking the beam dut to block the sun. All that they are is safety beams for kids so they do not get hurt. If you have to move them to the top where the sun will not hit them. Sorry to say though you can not remove them all the way. Also make sure the lite on them is not blinking if so they are out of line.

I replaced the worm gear and put the opener back up and now the trolley will only travel about 6" no matter how I adjust the travel or force. The light sensors are aligned and light up green. The opener has the green light on the back of it and it flashes 2 times quickly every 6 seconds. None of the remotes open the door either, HELP

Why wont the replaced liftmaster sprocket turn clockwise after replacement?

Looking down at the sprocket. When it turns clockwise it is closing the door and when it turns counterclockwise it will be opening the door.

How do I tighten sagging garage door chain?

I think you have more problems than just a sagging chain. It is most likely sagging because the bronze bushing at the gear and sprocket assembly is bad. It lets the sprocket lean forward and loosens the chain. You will also need to remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white gear just in front of the motor and is most likely stripped.

I replaced the sprocket and gear assembly on my

Here are some things to check.

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Garage door opener won't open or close door

The drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and you can see it just in front of the motor. It is white nylon and the part number is 41A2817. Available from Sears or any good door opener service company. It will come with instructions.

Craftsman 1\2 hp clicks, motor wurrs for 1 sec', but doesn't open

You have a stripped gear on the opener. Take off the cover on the motor. The bottom of the cover will be filled with white shavings. You can repair this with a "liftmaster gear and sprocket assembly".

Garage door opener motor doesn't work.

2 flashes is a safety eye issue, but you problen is most likely that the chain is not sync with the limit setting. Take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assemble and rotate center limit srew until it is in the same position as the trolley.

How is the chain supposed to be aligned

sync the motor. the gear kit tells you how. get motor up and position trolley near motor, assuming you left chain/cable attached to trolley). Get motor up by running motor and then pushing button again. if motor reverse, let it run and it will stop in up position.

Sears Craftsman Sprocket replacement procedure

You need a gear kit. Amazon sells them. I got mine at a Sears Service center. Beware that you will need to completely disassemble your unit to replace the gears.
