Hot water pipes are making a noise, not water hammer

is there a knocking when you use the faucet? the air pockets that are supposed to be in the plumbing are depleted. most new plumbing have a length of pipe larger than the rest of the plumbing to hold air to avoid it. easiest way to fix this: turn off the water main. open up every faucet and flush every toilet until no more water flows. shut everything off again. slowly turn on the water main and the knocking should disappear.

There is no water coming out of any faucets in nor outside house temperature outside is 24degrees. pipes are frozen, but where? at the point of entry into house? should we shut off water supply? we have...

I would start at the point of entry and work from there. Increase temperature by any safe method. You can use radiant heaters for crawl space or where it is dry and not a fire hazard. Open faucets on hot and cold side of bathtub or kitchen sink slightly. Open cabinet doors and increase temperature in the house. I would only use heat gun or hair dryer directly on pipes unless you have galvanized steel or copper piping in open area and then use torch sparingly. If you think you know where it is you can install heat tape and insulation. Just be carefule and good luck. Thank you.

How difficult is it to convert a N-069M Noritz from natural to LP?

It is not very hard, you can contact Noritz directly or a local distibutor to get a LP gas valve and change it out with the natural gas valve. It takes about 10-20 minutes. just make sure you check for leaks before starting it back up.

Tank will not turn on when sink hot water is turned on

Do other faucets in the house work ok? if so the kitchen faucet may not be creating enough water flow to trigger the noritz. The Noritz have a flow meter inside of them (depending on the year they where made, older units require 3/4 GPM, newer models require 1/2 GPM). If the kitchen faucet is not turning on the hot water, you can check the angle stop and make sure it is open all the way. Also check the aerator on the faucet to make sure it is not plugged and restricting the flow.

My Noritz N-084M has an error code. the red light on the front flashes 4 times

Check the remote control for the actual error code, but here are some of the more common codes associated with 4 flashes:

20 - high limit switch; typically caused by scale in heat exchanger: I recommend performing a descale

66 - water flow control valve abnormality; typcially caused by scale in the valve, again I recommend a descale

61 - fan motor abnormality; usually the fan won't run properly and requires replacement; however, it can also be caused by a low or inconsistent voltage supply

Assuming you are using natural gas to light the fire in your fireplace, is the pipe black iron gas pipe, regular galvanized pipe, or copper?

Is there a cut-off valve probably located just before the chimney, that is in-line with the pipe?

You do understand there is no fire in the pipe, but gas, right?

Removing natural gas pipes that are not properly isolated from the rest of the gas pipes is not a task for someone with no experience in this area.

Sometimes the gas must be shut off at the main, and then all your pilots will go out inside the house, in your range, hot water heater, etc, assuming they run on natural gas.

The excess gas in the pipe must be bled to the atmosphere if the main must be shut off, and then the proper pressure must be established prior to lighting pilots and/or appliances.

I highly recommend that you call a service man from a gas company to come out and do this for you. He will have the proper equipment and gauges if they are needed.
