Question about Vizio VW42LF 42 in. LCD HDTV

2 Answers

I have a 42 in flat panel LCD Vizio and it will not power up at all. The tv was working fine and I lost power in my house for about a minute and then power was restored but my tv would no longer power up. Is it possible that a fuse or relay has blown or is the tv ''fried''?

I've got a similar problem. We had a storm with a lot of lightning and were watching TV right through it (I don't recommend it, but we had our reasons). We had several brownouts, the room lights dimmed but power remained on. A couple of hours after the storm had passed, we turned off the TV to put the kids to bed, and when we turned it back on 15 minutes later, the orange "VIZIO" turned white (normal for power up), immediately went dark (not normal for being plugged in), and the TV has done nothing since.

My guess is that it's not a fuse, since it didn't die until the first power-up after the storm. I've seen other TVs refuse to power up because one of the IC's got some setting or another messed up, which seems pretty likely with the brownouts. I'm looking for some way of getting an error code, or some indication of what went wrong. I'd love it if there were a way to reset the flippin' thing without cracking the case, but I may be asking a bit much.

I've got a service appointment for tomorrow (extended service plan) and will post what I find -- hopefully it will help someone else. In the meantime, if someone can put me on the right track, I'd really appreciate it!

Heavens, why on earth would there be an external fuse? Thats just silly. Your powersupply board is likely out. If there is still sound then it may be the inverter. You're gonna have to crack it open to fix this one. Did you get any further info from the serviceman?

If you don't have a surge protector it's possible it's fried but i would best guess a fuse blew to save the tv might want to check with a repair man or see if theres an external fuse on the back

My 42" Vizio LCD HDTV

It can be the unstable power supply due to bad DC filter caps, bad T-CON boards, main board.
I would inspect the power supply first for caps with domed tops.

Learn about bad caps:
Capacitors kit: he can make you a set of caps.
Or just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

I called Vizio, was told I needed a hard reset, and this fixed my problem: I unplugged the TV; held down the on button for one minute, then plugged it back in. It works fine now.

My Vizio just shut off and lost power it a 50 inch and dont understand why?I didnt plug anything in to it so why does this happen it wont turn back on Todd P.A.

This same thing happened in my 32 in vizio and vizio paid an HDTV tech to come out to my house to fix it. He says he ALWAYS gets calls on vizios and this same thing is always the problem. He said Vizio paid more money for the screws on the tv then they did the power board in the tv. You want to either have someone fix it or buy a new power board and fix it yourself. It took the tech 15 min from start to finish to fix my tv and he had drove 2 hours to get here.
