Sounds like you have a BIOS problem. You can't update/reload it; for that, you need Windows. Try restoring defaults.

How can I redo the hard drive on an Acer Aspire 3100?

I'm assuming you are using the Windows Operating system. Just insert your windows disk, reboot your computer - make sure you boot to CD, and go through the setup there. The setup should wipe everything from your hard drive.

Acer aspire one AOA110 tries to start up but keeps looping back to the startup screen. Goes throught a lenghty disk check and goes back to startup screen.

Possible hard drive errors I would say.
Try and start it from your restore disk or your System disk and back up your data them replace the hard drive.
Hope that helps.

The computer isnt allowing me to reboot. Ive installed vista basic but its reading windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. ive followed the instructions but it...

I had something close to this problem with XP. I was
trying to install and it would get to the screen where it was detecting
hardware and just stay there for ever. I took out the hard drive and put it
into another machine repartitioned and reformated. I put the hard drive back
in and all was good.

Please use this advice at your own risk.

Black screen after turn on

That "Blue Screen" is also known as "Blue screen of Death".

The problem is due driver compatibilty or unstablity.

Try to boot your system to "Safe Boot" by pressing F8 during startup.
Select "Last know good Configuration that works"
Check if it can take you to desktop.
Unstalled the wi-fi driver and reboot.

If the above procedure fails, again
Try to boot your system to "Safe Boot" by pressing F8 during startup.
Select "Safe boot"
Check if it can take you to desktop.
Unstalled the wi-fi driver and reboot.

Now create a restore point  and download the lastest version of your WI-Fi driver and installed.

This should work fine.

Otherwise Backup all your important data from your hard drive (mainly opearting system file installed drive usually C:\) and go for a new Installation.

Boot Acer 3100 Aspire. Shows NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart. Will just go to the same screen over and over. Will not boot at all. Do not have a boot disk.

Remove any 3.5" diskette from the A: drive.
Remove any CD from the CD/DVD drive.
Reboot.

If you still have the problem, then borrow a Windows XP disk.
Boot from it. Choose "repair", not "install".

If the disk-drive is "detected", then "repair" will attempt to fix any file-system errors.

If *NO* disk-drive is detected, your disk-drive has "died".

Acer aspire t135 rebooting problem at startup constantly

I am assuming that it starts up, goes to the windows splash screen, the reboots and starts the whole process again?
Try to boot into safe mode: When you see the first screen, hit the F8 Key repeatedly, which should bring up a menu of boot options. Choose the safe mode option, and hit enter. If it boots into safe mode, I would start by running a checkdisk on the hard drive. Here's how:
Hit the Windows key and the letter R, in the prompt that comes up type in cmd and hit enter.
This should bring up the console. type in chkdsk /r/f in the prompt. It should say the drive is locked, and ask if you want to run on the next startup. Type y and enter. Then reboot. The checkdisk should run, and may be able to recover any bad sectors it finds. If it finds lots of problems, a more thorough diagnostic should probably be done, as the hard drive may be failing.

Sleep mode

If you reformatted the hard drive, you have erased everything. If you have restore or backup disks use them now.

Acer aspire 4720

OMG ... i was completley distraught. i bought my ACER ASPIRE LAPTOP 6 months ago when i was trveling in italy ,im in austarlia. I use it to run my online game ; » www.themafiawarz.eu - and has all my files.

When i got the black screen o death i first am here to the boards finding nothing i was further distraught..

I AM HAPPY TO TELL YOU MY FRIENDS, that i am typing this on my lil baby

Heres what you do....

* you need usb disk drive
* a second computer with internet access (can be work cafe friends place)
* a file you can download from acer or search yourself called ZGIA32.zip

Format your drive in fat (*note i tried fat as directed in a number of manuals though then tried fat32 and it worked then though suggest you try fat first *shrug)

open zip file and copy 3309.fd and the fla.exe to the usb stick

rename 3309.fd to ZGIA32.fd

Turn off your laptop making sure that both battery and power supply is plugged in and attach the usb stik/drive.

hold down FN and ESC keys and press the power button, continue to fold FN and ESC keys for 7-10 secs then release - at this point the power light should be blinking and you should still have the black screen of death.

press the power button once while its blinking - this will initiate a bios update * DO NOT PUSH ANYTHING AFTER THIS

After 2 mins the aspire should reboot itself , wait for about 7mins if it dosent before rebooting manually

Took me three attempts as i just wasent doing something right though TA DA!!!!!

and i still have my files. yeah team take this and run, hope you havent spent money yet smile.gif

Acer Aspire 3100 boot up problem

unless it is something more serious, first keep pressing F8 when you turn on the notebook and it should enter safe mode. When in safe mode select the operating system that is highlighted and then a screen will appear with options, one being 'Last Known good Configuration', highlight this and press enter. The system will reboot and start again in windows as normal hopefully. If you are not able to get a screen showing in safe mode there is something more serious wrong and it could be hard drive fault or motherboard, but if you can see the disc drive light flickering the system is loading and you may have a graphical fault.
