The 315 was originally intended to be for woods and trail AND a marine application. The default is marine. Be WARNED! The battery life max is 15 hours.
There may be a few reasons for it not locking on '1) batteries too low 2) Sirf chip damaged 3) Not in an area where it has a clear view of the open sky 4) electricasl interference from other electronic products 5) High voltage power lines overhead Manual here https://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/gps_310_315_en.pdf

Have you gone through the "Initialize" process again? If the memory has been cleared you will need to re-initialize. Refer to page 4 of your manual.
Power On > Select Language > "ENTER" > INITIALIZE screen > "ENTER" > Select Region > "ENTER" > Select Area > "ENTER" > Enter Elevation > "ENTER" (if you don't know elevation, press enter) > Enter Time > "ENTER" > Enter Date > "ENTER"
I own Two Magellan 315. They both have failed in exactly the same way as yours, will not lock on too a satillite. I have concluded that this is their design life and that is the end. I did post one to the Magillan repair centre in France but that disappeared. I have replaced the two of them from EBay and will see how I get on with those
