Question about Garmin nuvi 780 GPS

1 Answer

Lost audio Yesterday we plugged in the Garmin nuvi and programed it to take us to a destination. We did nothing different than we have in the past. The visual screen came up and gave us directions as always.....but we do not have the lady's voice giving us audio directions. How do we restore the voice prompts on this? Thank you Terri Pender

I keyed in my destination and the garmin just went blank. I thought maybe it was out of power, so I hooked up the adapter to the power in the car, and I turned the Garmin on, but it would not let me get...

Charge it overnight on the wall charger --- this helps - then if nothing - - reset -
turn the unit on and press your thumb in the lower right corner - then select YES on the next screen - reboot if fully charged and off you go.

Navigation instructions unreliable

Your Nuvi has suffered the firmware or system software equivalent of a stroke.

I can help you fix your Garmin Nuvi 200W.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Lost audio capability

There is a gps repair guide that show you how to disassemble the gps. is the audio jack loose? if so i can trick the gps into thinking that a headphone is plugged in and disable the sound. otherwise try firmware update.

Can not turn on my GPS Garmin nuvi 760

Can you try the direct to outlet charger? If you dont have one can you try a different charger? If that does not work then that means that the unit might be defective. Contact Garmin at 1-800-800-1020

Try three things:
1)Do a reset
2)Do a Master reset
3)Try doing a full software update by getting the free program from Garmin called WebUpdater.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
