The new hard drive has to be formatted first, then install the operating system. It cannot find the Master Boot Record. Google Master Boot Record repair on the Microsoft Knowledge Base websiter for instructions to rebuild the MBR..

I lost my BIOS Password on my Laptop it is DELL inspirion 1501 please help ..mike

Hi,

Check it.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Download the cd iso and burn it to a cd using your favorite program.

Insert the CD into the drive and boot your computer. You will then be brought to a screen in which you will be asked to download the drivers, select your partition, select you username, and change the password.

Hope this helps

I have a dell 1501 inspirion laptop how to i re boot it to factory settings i did it once but don't remember how

If you want to get it back to the original settings without the latest patches, turn on the computer and hit <Ctrl> and <F11> together when the blue bar displays with www.dell.com during the boot sequence. If you miss the timing, let the computer boot-up then shut down again and retry. This will restore from a compressed partition on your hard drive. Thus anything you have added (programs/files) will disappear. Do not power down during the Restore sequence or you could end up with an unusable machine.

Use the Windows System Restore if you just have a bad driver.

I hope this helps.

Pxe-e61: media test failure, operating system not found

First, take out any CDs/DVDs and try to boot again. If that doesn't work, your hard drive may be defective.

There will be a cover on the bottom of your laptop that holds the hard drive (easy access). You can try removing and reinserting the hard drive and then booting the PC afterward.

If that doesn't work, you will likely have to replace the hard drive, but best advice would be to take it to a computer technician for further analysis.

No operating system

This sounds like a common case. Usually if computers are not shut down properly then data is lost. You might need to do a fresh reinstall of operating system (windows). Before you do this, try to find a way to back up important files. Try connecting the hard drive to another pc and make a copy of needed files. Then install a fresh copy of windows. You can obtain a copy of installation these ways:
It comes with some computers.
Your computer might have a recovery section on the hard drive.
You can purchase a copy from a store "walmart"
You can purchase a copy from microsoft
Or if your smart you can get it online for free.

No display

The LCD backlight is most likely faulty. If you look at the LCD screen to one side you could see a slight video image, provided the video card is working. To check if the video card is working connect the laptop's video output connector to an external monitor and then boot up your laptop. If you get an image on the monitor, then the problem is with the laptop's LCD display.
As I stated it could be the backlight or a faulty invertot that powers the backlight or it could be the cable/s that connects the LCD to the motherboard.
Try reseating these cables (requires dismantling the laptop).
If this doesn't work then you have a faulty LCD and needs to be replaced. Alternately if cost is too expensive, just use the laptop with an external monitor.

Dell 1501 inspiron laptop blank screen

Hi,

Have you installed any application/program prior to the blue screen? Most blue screen causes your system not to boot to your operating system anymore. It is possible that your hard drive is crashed due to a virus infections or spywares. Incompatibility and corrupted system registry may affect your system to have blue screen as well.

You may try the following steps below.

1. Restart your computer. After you pressed the power button to restart. Keep on tapping F8 key on the keyboard on and off.

2. Boot advanced option will show up on the screen. You may boot your computer to the following option.

a. Last known good configuration
b. Safe mode with Networking.

If Safe mode w/networking works, restore your computer to an earlier using the system restore features.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

jeff
