I am having the tenant pull out the other large coil and insert into the defective one to see if it heats. I am assuming the eye attached to the coil that fits into the receptacle. There are two of them?

It had 2 8 inch eyes and your suggestion about substituting the small one in the malfunctioning worked...so thank you!

Is it the eye itself or the receptacle? solution: yank out the questionable eye and put another from the stove in that one. swap em around and determine if the eye is bad or the receptacle. The receptacle are around 10 bucks.

some have 2 8 inch eyes and others have only one. Most of them just slide out easily. NOTE: If wired you need a repairman.

How do i fix a heating element on my electric cooktop

Most top elements are just a plug in.. find where the element joins the body of the stove and firmly pull on the element straight back from that point. MAKE SURE THE POWER TO THE STOVE IS TURNED OFF AT THE BREAKER

No heat

The home's circuit breaker is not the problem if part of the stove / oven works. What is more likely to be the cause is a problem such as an "open" or "burned out" heating element or socket.
The control is "on" and sending power to the element. The control reports "Preheating" but since the heating element itself is no longer a complete circuit - it fails to heat. As mentioned above, it may be a problem with the socket that the heating element plugs into - but could be a problem with any wire between the control and the heating element.
I would suggest shuting off the circuit breaker for the stove / oven. Check to be sure it is off by turning on a heater that worked previously. If it stays off, you're ready to continue. Carefully inspect the heating element itself for damage. The surface of the heater should be uniform - smooth over the entire length. You may not be able yo view the back side of the heater - but you may be able to run your fingers gently over the surface to feel for damage. If damage is found on the surface, this would indicate that a new element is required. Once replaced, you should expect it to work again as new. If unable find damage, removal and inspection of both the oven's socket and heating element contact blades should be done. If found to be burned or damaged, replacement of the socket, heater or both may be needed.
Obtain replacement parts designed for you make and model stove / range. Contact an appliance repair service if unsure how to check / make these repairs.
I hope this helps & good luck!

Stove cutoff after loud popping sound

The element burnt in to and arced which is the loud noice you heard red flash of light. It probably tripped the breaker at the electrical panel. Don't turn it back on until someone checks the element and replaces it.

Large electric burners not working on lowest "LO" setting

Unplug the range and remove the problem elements.
With a flashlight, look inside the element receptacle for burned or disfigured terminals.
If they are damaged they can be replaced.
If the element terminals are OK you have defective switches.

Kenmore electric stove model c880.6383880 left front burner does not work....it is not the element itself as it heats up on another burner.

hi,

sounds like you have the old-style coil elements on you stove.

your problem is the switch under the element, called the infinite switch. i would suggest to have a technician replace it. they usually charge for the labour but if you have never done it before, it's money well spent.

Oven pilot light won't light

Part of the problem was my own ignorance about this particular Kenmore gas oven. It doesn't even have a pilot light. Instead, there is an electric heating element close to the burner which gets so hot that it ignites the gas. It seems that the heating element also doubles as a temperature sensor, so that it opens the gas valve only when the heating element is hot enough to ignite the gas. This heating element, called the "ignitor", no longer gets hot in my oven even though there is 120VAC applied to it when the oven knob is turned on. Therefore, the ignitor is defective. I ordered a new one on-line from "Appliance Parts of America" for $31.50 plus shipping, and this should fix the problem. If it does NOT, I'll add to this post.
