Gateway M-1625 Will Not Power Up?

I was using the laptop fine... went to the store... came back... and it's not working...

Battery is completely dead...

... and it won't turn on with the ac adapter either...

I already replaced the adapter... and it didn't help...

Plugged it up, and it doesn't recognize any power source...

The only light that it's giving me is a red one saying it's dead when the battery is attached...

Computer is only a year old...

I read somewhere that sometimes the power "intake" (whatever you call it that receives the ac adapter) could come loose on the inside of the computer causing the power not to work...

... But i've spent over an hour unsrewing everything trying to figure out how to get inside it at that point since I'm very familiar with sodering... just to see if there are any loose wires...

Can any one help out in any way? Suggest anything???

When the AC adapter is plugged in, does it wiggle excessively if you try to wiggle it at the jack where it plugs into the notebook? If so, the power jack had become unsoldered from the main board. You would have to take the main board completely out to get to the solder pins, then resolder them with a LOW-WATTAGE soldering iron. If you think you were successful, lay a bead of epoxy between the jack and the main board on the three sides away from the connection hole. Let it dry for 24 hours, then put everything back together. A service maual would be useful, if you can get one.

CMOS battery gateway t-1625

Remove the keyboard and the media button panel.
Remove all the screws from the underside of the laptop.
Remove the access panels.
Remove the hard drive.

There are three screws that holds the chassis together here (inside the hard drive bay). You won't be able to completely open the chassis but now you can use a flat blade (I used a small flat head screw driver) and pry the top and bottom pieces apart.

As I mentioned, you won't be able to completely take the two chassis pieces apart but you will now have enough clearance to access the CMOS battery to the right of the headphone jack (looking at the bottom).

I used a small flat head to pop the battery out. I then used long tweezers to place the new 1220 battery on the battery tray and reached around from the hard drive bay and popped it in with my index finger.

Put everything back together in the order you took it apart.

Gateway m-1625 battery won't hold any charge? Laptop/battery less than 2 years old... Thanks

Laptop batteries have a lifetime defined in charge cycles. The unfortunate thing is that running a battery down to 80% is the same as using it down to 10% as far as a charge cycle is concerned. The average battery life is in the neighborhood of 300-400 cycles. In short, time for a new battery. You may be able to wring some more life out of this one, though: try letting your laptop drain the battery COMPLETELY by leaving it on until it goes dead, then recharging fully.

All you need to do is to call GATEWAY technical support. If your laptop still under warranty then they will replace either the motherboard or the power adapter. But regarding on this issue that you have, my first suspect is that your power adapter is bad and secondly the motherboard.

Yes, if the CPU/motherboard will not POST (Power On Self Test), then changing the CPU is the only thing that you have not tried.

My Gateway laptop that I purchased two years ago has stopped working all of a sudden yesterday. I was on it and had to restart it a couple of times yesterday and then finally when I went to turn it back...

I reccommend you open the laptop and remove the bios battery. this is a small flat round shape battery, leave out of the machine for 20 minutes, then insert it again and power on the laptop. :)

Gateway T-1625 - System only recognizes parts of the Memory

I bet that the video card on the motherboard is using some of your main memory. As for the cpu driver I would go to the device manager and revert back to last driver or use a utillity like Uniblue's DriverScaner.

Battery light

There are several solutions to your problem, the battary may be bad, the charger may not be charging the battery or the power supply in the laptop could be malfunctioning.
You can check the output of your battery charger with a volt meter, as for the battery and the power supply, you would need to take it to a repair depot or call one of your local computer repair facilities.
