Sounds like the mounts have worn out and have become loose. If you take off the outside panel, you can then check to see if the drum is still mounted securely or not. If not, then replace the parts that are broken. Simple as that.

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Maytag has a drum brake located on the bottom of yor machine. You need to remove the brake and clean it up or perhaps replace the device.

My Maytag Performa doesn't work on spin cycle. Burning rubber smell. Belt looks okay. Pumps out rinse water but drum won't spin.

Brakes are locked in the spin cycle or the pinion shaft has dropped down from within the transmission not to engage the agitator.

Washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.
