Does your screen saver go in after 15-20 minutes ? because if so then you might try disable it and check if it freezes. does it also freeze when you are using it or when its idle ?
I would start disabling any programs that might be loading in startup through msconfig. to do so just open start > run > and type msconfig then go to the startup section and disable some programs at a time. You will need to restart the pc for this to take effect. try it out and see how it goes.

Reboot and keep tapping on F8 to go to Safe Mode. Do not put the reinstallation disk yet. Once in Safe Mode select "last known good configuration".
You can also run "Chkdsk" from the C hard drive Properties if you get to Safe Mode. Double click "My Computer", right click on C drive, select Properties, select Tools tab, go to Error checking and click on "Check now" then check "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attemp recovery for bad sectors" and click "start"
If that doesn't work proceed to do System Restore in Safe Mode or remove previous programs that may have caused your Windows to freeze. If you suspect virus, run your anti-virus in Safe Mode.
If none of the above works then try your XP CD (or reinstallation disk) and do a repair.
hi, is the cd/dvd working now after removing upper and lower filters, if it is that is good, when does your computer freeze can you associate it with some activity that you are doing on it, does it give any error when it freezes any blue screen error
when you deleted upper and lower filters did the notebook started to freeze right after that or it worked fine for some time,
try restarting your system in safe mode and see if it freezes there to go into safe mode restart your system> at gateway logo > start tapping F8 > in this menu select safe mode and try using it in safe mode
tell me what happens so that i can help you further
This is either an operating system failure or hard drive failure. Start by reloading a fresh operating system (Vista) with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any problems during or after the install, then it's the hard drive and will need to be replaced.
My screen saver is turned off already
