make sure your dvd driver are in and working.
or use a cleaning disc to cleand the lens in your dvd reader.

There could be several reasons. Either you cd/dvd drive's lens has to be cleaned, or the cd is in bad condition. Try copying the installation files to the hard disk and then install the game.

since the lens has already been cleaned and the freezeups and not reading games is still going on, I would say to replace the drive with a known working one or a brand new one.

A weak lens in a dvd drive will cause those problems, you can also just buy the laser and replace it if you have some technical skills by taking apart the dvd drive.

Usually Ebay has drives and lasers for pretty cheap.

your lens might have got wrong or just use a lens cleaner.then just cleand the disc with a clean cloth and then try again

take the screws out from the bottom and clean leans with rubbing alcahol and a Q-tip. 1st roll Q-Tip in alc. the gentle clean lens then on dry end of tip dry gentle on lens.

Disc doesn't play

yes its 100% lens problem.the lense of the ps2 consists of two parts,one is the one that reads the dvd disc and the other one that reads the cd-r only.the dvd reader is already busted that is why it only recognises only some cds which are cd-r's.try replacing the lens and you can play dvd discs again.hope this one helps
