How do I find a short that goes to the frame as soon as I hook up the battery?

Hi Anonymous, start by isolating the circuit disconnect or remove fuses and circut breakers that go to the lights and starter. If you still have the short it's in the ignition curcuit. If not reconnect breakers and install fuses in either the light or starter curcuit. Once you determine which circuit its in use a test lite to check for continuity in the wires and connectors of the offending circuit. You can download a wiring diagram at www.officialharleyparts.com Good luck

Has there been issue with 30 amp curcuit breaker needing to be changed to 40 amp on 2002 FXST

Main circuit breakers were a problem on the older bikes, problem being when over heated the would pop and you would lose all power to the bike. Now if you bike is dying and you still have power and are able to crank it but it wont start, then I'd be looking at you CPS not the main breaker. One way to tell if it's CPS is to remove it when bike doesn't start. Wipe all the oil off, take a can of compressed air blow it on the CPS to cool it down, put back in bike and start it, If it starts then the sensor is bad.

Crosley model ced5563rq, checked continuty on limiter fuse, door switch, off/on switch, checked heating coil, hi/low thermostats, circuit breakers and voltage. all seem to be ok. the dryer will not start....

Hello,
What you still the actul circuits on the timer, the thing that can make a dryer not start are things you hav ealready checked plus also the timer&motor, and perhaps a belt switch i could not find your actual model number to see if it has a belt switch but lots of brand use a switch that cuts motor curcuit when belt is broke, but as i said it also could be timer or motor

I have hot tub control by Square D QO260GFI. The curcuit has tripped to off position and when I try to flip it to on position it just stays in nutral.

Hi!!

The breaker may be defective is not rated for the load been used or one of the devices the breaker is controlling is either defective and is drawing too much current.

try disconnecting the devices ie: pump motor or heather. one at the time, this is to find out if they work ok by themselves, test one by one. If the pump do not want to start up, it may be the start capacitor. If both devices trip the breaker, Replace breaker.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Still runs ok, but doesnt dehumidify anymore, and today it started smelling really funky....like something was about to burn up...

One of the connections to the compressor is shorting underneath the protective cap. It is a very strange design for this contact point. Hope you have a good circuit breaker on the curcuit that your unit is plugged into.

Two 15 amp arc fault breakers installed on two adjacent circuits. One works fine - does not trip. The afi breaker beside it trips as soon as it is flipped on. We tried switching circuits, but both circuits...

It's possible that the first breaker that you said does not trip - it could be that breaker is failing to trip on a bad circuit. That is, it could be you have a bad circuit but that first breaker is not detecting it and pretends everything is OK. If your new breaker trips on the first breaker's circuit, the curcuit it probably bad and the breaker in not working properly. The most common problem for failed circuits is a stray ground wire in a box somewhere in the curcuit resting against a hot or neutral wire. You'll have to take apart every connection on that curcuit to find it. Not fun.

Timer wont advance will not heat

you either have a tripped curcuit breaker or your heating element is blown. If the timer cannot sense that the heater is in the curcuit it will not advance check your curcuit breaker first. flip it on and then off and let me know if you have heat

One of 2 circut resets keeps tripping on our Generac generator

If it's tripping a breaker that usually means there is to high of an amp draw on that curcuit.

Are you plugging more things into that particular curciut (or just different but higher amp draw items) than you did last year?

It's also possible that one of the items plugged into that curcuit is wearing out and drawing more amps than before.

If you have an amp meter, plug everything back up just the way it was when you were having problems. Check the main wire going to that curcuit. (right at the breaker)

If your amp draw is greater or nearly the same as the amprating of that particular circuit, then thats your problem.
To many things/to high amp draw on one circuit.

If it is not near the amp rating, and you are getting proper voltage to the breaker, then I would replace that breaker.

Curcuit breaker pops

hello elanalex,
When your heater shuts off it trips your main breaker and that is usually associated with the interupt capacity of the breaker ( which means that while your heater is drawing current, if the thermostat says stop.. you are interupting that current demand abruptly and your getting a surge back to your breaker, You may be able to add a surge arrestor to that power feed to suppress that problem. You may also be able to repsecify your main breaker with one that has a higher interupt capacity.. Check with a local electrical supply house..explain the problem and they should be able to provide a hardware solution. Make sure you provide details on your circuit breaker brand so they can provide the proper solution.. GoodLuck

Rick

AIR CONDTIONER TRIPS CURCUITS

Possible loose connections on the wires to the breakers,
or in the unit. loose connections casuse the wire to overamp and trip the breaker.
Also it's possible the breaker it's self is bad.
there ar also other possibilites but the 2 formentioned is the most common cause.
