Question about AOC 9GLR 19" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

I am getting a burnt smell coming from the rear of the monitor. The screen flickers and you can hear sparks sometimes. Recently the viewable area has decreased greatly and the adjustments won't rectify this.

These are capacitors that are burning. also, the resistors are really going threw major stress. i would remove the CRT monitor from the plug and, rebuild the power board immediately before a fire starts. This is a power board issue at the moment but, it will spread as long as power is still running threw the monitor.

check that the smell is not from the o2sensor wires burning on the exhaust system. This will also give other problem indications.

Screen flickering when turning on laptop and sometimes the laptop turns on after flickering and sometimes doesn't turn on at all after flickering. Just stays black.

You may have a faulty inverter or loose power inverter connection. OR
You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Burnt plastic smell coming from bottom of frig

This is a sign of a short and should be looked at immediately. A smell like that is a sign of something burning. I could be the start relay and start capacitor with overload. But I would not sleep with the possibility of a fire. I will look over your model and see if I can find what this could be, Sea Breeze

"Flickering" screen

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.
