the cable dont match to my new hard drive - 74a360c.jpg

There are 2 types of connections, IDE ( Top pic. The ribbon) and SATA (Bottom pic. Red Cable). If your running IDE, you could get a new motherboard (SATA supported), or just bring back your hard drive exchanging it for a IDE.

How do I install new Hard Drive in my Compaq Presario cq5320PC Desktop

Hmm Well I cant seem to find your computer model anywhere on the Internet.... but assuming its a basic compaq Computer All you would need to do is buy the correct type of Hard Drive (Ide, sata) open the computer up with the power unplugged and static protection..... now some computers have multiple Hard Drive bays and some only have one so you will need to install your new HD into a bay assuming your replacing your current HD you would remove the old HD and install this one in its spot dont forget to Check the jumper setting on the Hard drive to either match the drive your replacing or as a Master in a single HD setup also plug in a power source and the data cable into your new drive or it wont work.... it should be that easy almost all new computers will automatically configure it in the cmos for you.... if its a replacement for your main HD then it will need You to install an Operating System on it before you can use it.

What is a cpu

no and no. the CPU or Processor is not included in a motherboard. if your buying a completely different board from the one you have you may need to expend a few hundred more to buy a new processor to match. also you may have to buy new RAM depending on the new board vs the old board. also you need to match up the PIN number of the board to processor. if its a 966 pin you need a 966 pin processor to match. and RAM DDR1,2,3 to same.

you do not need to buy a new hard drive as long as you dont need a new one. but when you replace a motherboard windows will demand you re enter your activation key before it will open right back up to you. so make sure you have it handy.

I have a external hard drive on a mac book. It stopped recognizing the hard drive even after I got a new data cable

Maybe the problem is with the hard disk itself and not on the data cable, Try mix and matching the data cable and hard disk with another known working set. You should be able to isolate which device is causing the problem and replace it.

What happen if i dont put jumper in a hard a hard drive?

If you don't put jumper in harddrive is detects it as cable select means if you connect your harddrive to middle socket of ide cable and then it detects it as slave but if you connect it at the end of ide cable it detects as slave. But make sure that otehr device is not set as master only 1 device is set as master or slave .
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a WD external hard drive and need a new power cord. model # wd2200h1u-00 where can I find one?

for those, you can use a generic power cable as long as the voltage and amperage matches the original one. Take the old one with you and head to a radioshack.

Hard drive switching (dead one to new one)

Your computer comes with an Sata hard drive. I am guessing that you have purchased a IDE one. If sio , return the IDE drive in exchange for an Sata one. He is the manufactures web site for your machine:

New hard drive(s) in Dell4500s

You would have to contact dell for the OS disk.

I dont think you can install the hard disk in place of floppy drive. An external Hard disk would be a better option.

How to replace hard drive

You want to know how to replace that hard drive? Or replace your old one with that one? Well first thing to do would be to buy another. You will need to go to walmart, or best buy and buy an IDE internal hard drive. Next would be to open up your computer tower and check the old hard drive, it is the 3 an 1/2 inch wide small black box. You need to check the jumper setting on the old drive. Check they will be two rows of 4 or 5 pins, next to where the wide band ide ribbon is connected to the hard drive. There will be a plastic peice (the jumper) and inside the plastic is some metal that connects two pins. You need to check where the jumper is and compare it to the schematic on the label on top to determin if it is Master(M), Slave(S), Cable Select(CS). Now you have to look at the schematic on the new drive and change the jumpers on it to match the configuration(Master, Slave, or Cable Select) with the old drive. Now take take the ribbon and power cable from the old drive and plug in the new drive. Take out the old drive, and screw the new drive into the old hard drives place. Now insert your Windows XP, Linux, or what ever cd into your cd drive and install.
