Question about Refrigerators

5 Answers

I had water leaking from under the Frig. I moved the Frig and found that the water line had broken. Each time the water pumped to ice maker it ran out onto the floor. I pinched off the plastic line from the water intake thinking it would stop the problem, but it didn't. The water kept coming into the freezer causing a massive ice build up. I have removed the ice twice already, but it continues to happen. I am a renter. When I told my landlord about the problem, she told me that she had just purchased a maintenance contract, it would not be effective for another 2 weeks. I can live with out the ice maker, but not the freezer. How can I shut off the water so the freezer will work and the ice maker will be on hold till the maintenance contract kicks in. Look under the sink, that's probablly where it's hooked up from, there is more than likelly a splitter that comes off the cold water line. You can turn off the cold water, and pick up a new line at home depot for a few dollars, and replace the one that's in there. Or plug the line to the Frige with a little plug, screw or anything that will fit into the hose . Or you can crimp the line like you would a garden hose, just crimp it and tie it up as long as its a temporary fix with a rubberband. You probablly have copper or plastic fitings, and they sell caps or plugs for them at any decent hardware store.

You will have to find the shutoff valve where it taps into the main water supply of the house.
This will shut off the water until the icemaker can be serviced.
Follow the tubing back until you reach copper. There will be a needle valve to turn clockwise until it stops.

How can i turn off the water function on the door but not the ice, the water line keeps leaking on the back of the frig

When I had this problem the water was coming from the top right rear where the water tube feeds the ice maker. The water line INSIDE the frig that feeds the ice maker occasionally freezes up causing an obstruction which causes the water to leak out the rear. This can only happen when the icemaker activates the water feed. You can remove the tube fitting without fear because the valve that feeds water through the line is at the bottom rear of the unit. If the line is frozen inside I remove the ice bin and tray and use a hair dryer to melt the ice.
I have a similar problem with the condenser fan making a tapping/clacking noise which is also a result of ice building up on that. Wish I had a different frig but for now the hair dryer will have to do.

My ice maker on my kenmore refrigerator is not working. a red lightg is flashing on the ice maker. everything looks ok, no ice though!

I had the same issue with my frig. I read on line where Someone open the freezer and ran a hair dryer in it. So I tried it I turned off the water draned the water side out left my door open while I had the hair dryer running for a half hour then turned the water back on and sure enough after the line unfroze and it started making ice. there was a little blurb on the freezer about how much water presure was needed. I found this information just by doing a google search on my model frig.

The inside of freezer is leaking from back wall - there is no ice maker. water that leaks is freezing and taking up space. what can be causing this

the drain line is clogged causing the ice build up .the frig has to defrost every 6 to 8 hours so every time it defrosts is when it will leak ..you will have to defrost the frig manually ..turn it off. open the doors. let it defrost. remove the thick ice on the bottom ..after its defrosted take the bottom an back panel off.. un plug frig first !! drainline is in the back in the middle of the freezer. unclogg it hot water or shop vac be carefull good luck!! drain line should go to a pan under the frig, in the back make sure it drains before putting back together

We have the maytag refridgerator that has the ice maker. We had it for 2 years without using the ice maker moved then we decided to get the line to get it up and running. Upon the ice being made we noticed...

I would replace the plastic tubing ASAP. After 8 years using the plastic tubing we found our finished basement ceiling leaking water. When we looked into the source we found a hairline crack spiraling along the plastic tube. This must have leaked for several months. The very fine water spray ran down the wall and through the supply line hole in the floor and onto the ceiling. Replace the plastic line with a steel braided one. You wont have any issues with taste or breaking.

Water line from house supply sprung a leak just before going into the ice maker control unit in the lower right cornor of the frig. After replacint the water line the water did not flow into the control...

What once was a leak is now no flow and no response when trying to turn on ice maker? Is the valve where the ice maker line taps into turned back on? If it's back on, first turn it off, take loose water line as close to ice maker as possible, then have someone else turn valve at tap slightly on while you watch for water flow. If no flow, start back-tracing your connections until you find the blockage. Most water connections of this type have a in-line filter. Is it clogged? If you have water pressure as close to the ice maker as you can test, next you may need to troubleshoot the ice maker it's self. Let me know?

I have water leaking under front at late night

Check your ice maker lines that run in front at the bottom of your frig. You just might have a small leak in the line. It's located behind the grill in front of the frig.

Maytag model MSD2756GE ice maker. Water not getting to ice maker.

Why was there a need to increase the freezer temperature? Are you having temperature problems as well? If so, your ice maker has a built-in thermostat that, unless and until it is satisfied, will not cycle, thereby, making no ice. If temperature seems ok, and the buzzing is only occasional, then that buzzing is most likely the solenoid valve being energized but not passing water. This is a dual solenoid valve (one supplies the ice maker and the other supplies the dispenser) located at the bottom rear of the refrigerator.

Ice maker is making ice but leaking alot of water under the fridge and in the freezer. What can I do to shut if off until I repair the ice maker?

pull our your frig. and follow the water line coming into it. the other end should have a valve on it in the floor or the wall. turn off the valve and that will stop any water from coming to your frig for water or ice making.

Leaking water

test: first, turn off water supply to frig. then dry up all water. then ensure frig is running at right temperature. now gradually turn on water and observe where leak is. My guess is it is overflowing the ice-maker. there is an adjustment for this. pop off the cover over the end of the ice-maker. look for a screw adjustment. turn it counterclockwise.
