when i put a cd in my window media player everything shoiws up fine on screen but no sound at all

Try to see the volume control maybe it is muted. if no volume control then you have to reinstall again the driver of your audio controller. if not of these, then try other CD or use other player such as VLC player and you have to download full audio codecs. VLC player is tough no need to download other player.
