loss of audio(intermittent)...recovery only when engaging volume/UP on either TV or remote console.(no schematic)

Does this model have a headphone jack? If so, plug a pair of headphones or external speaker into the jack, turn the volume to an acceptable listening level and see if the problem goes away. If so, the headphone jack may be bad.
