This tv have a colors wheel. The colors wheel is dead. The colors wheel is dying, going to be dead. The tv make loud humming, noisy sounds like a loud fans or motors noises. Also the tv colors flashes black&white or multiple colors pictures and scrambled.Colors wheel replacement is difficult, never done tv repair before.Hire a tv Tech. to replaced the tv colors wheel.
Most DLP TVs have a color wheel. This allows the TV to be manufactured with a single chip to control the color for each spot on the screen and a white light source. As the wheel rotates, the desired color light gets transmitted to the screen. This happens so fast that most people do not see the screen refreshing each color.
Usually the symptom of a failing color wheel is the TV being very noisy on startup (a whining sound) followed by it shutting down. Although other problems can be involved - for example a power problem going into the assembly with the wheel (there is a motor that turns the wheel).
The model number you have posted does not have a color wheel at all.
If it is WS-65611 go into the customer menu and select convergence--if it is 3d and will not adjust there--you have a convergence problem.
I HAVE AVAILABLE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS for replacing this part in this set--available here for free.
If someone told you it is a color wheel and you have the correct model number here posted--they are not very smart--this model does not have a color wheel and the later Mitsubishi sets that did have one--they do not sell the color wheel for them.
If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you. I have repaired hundreds of these sets and the instructions are based on actual experience doing this repair.
If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.
The color wheel will normally spin-up even for a brief moment when the set is powered up. I have not seen a color wheel go out with a lamp. I have seen a ballast go bad with a lamp. I would replace the ballast first. You did not state wheather the color wheel was noisy or not. On the Samsung DLP, the color wheel is normally very noisy before it is gone. I hope this will help you.
had a 46H84 given to me after "engine failure diagnosed" by Tech and $800 + estimate
Removed the engine and found the color wheel was very dirty and the shaft was not spinning well- cotton swab and denatured alcohol did the trick-
then cleaned the lens which was also dirty and while I was at it cleaned the mirror and backside of screen
Turned it on and WALLA- new set - the fan is a little noisy yet but liveable.
Total investment? 3-4 hours, 10-15 cotton swabs and a little alcohol- for the set on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Just took a little common sense - the service manual is available online also for about $8 shows basic teardown but does not get into engine teardown which was very basic. My guess is a majority of engine failures after 4-5 years are simply in need of a good cleaning in reality
