The broiler in my stove won't turn off and I wasn't even using it--came on by itself.

Check the switch of your broiler corrosion might be the cause of the automatic on. Unplug your kitchen range and spray an anti-rust or WD-40 to the suspected switch let it stand for 15 minutes before operating.

Last night the broiler came on all by itself. No one has ever used the broiler in 7 years and I haven't used the oven in weeks. Had to turn off the breakers outside in the electrc box. What's happening?

The relay on the main control has stuck in a closed position (probally melted). The relay itself cannot be replaced the whole control must be replaced. They are easy to check and replace.

Here is a link for checking and replacing an oven control. If you need diagrams and illustrations of your specific model enter your model their. All parts come with installation instructions.

My Hotpoint RB536 range's broiler will not turn off. I bought it used and suspect that a switch is connected wrong. I need a wiring diagram of the panel of switches to sort this out.

I would say you have a stuck relay on your control board. what happens when you unplug and plug back in? does the broiler turn on by itself or do you have to turn it on? Does the broiler cycle on and off or is is constintaly on all the time? Do you have a control board to turn the broiler on or is it a machanical dial? If you have to press a button to turn the broiler on i would say 99% positive you have a stuck relay on your control board. slide range out of the hole remove the back panel to access the control board. you will see these black little boxs on the board and marked on your board you will see bake and broil and both of them have 2 wires on them. on the broil relay should have 2 red wires going to it. unplug power to the range. remove the 2 wires from the relay check continuity accross the relay. you should not have continuity if you do this is the reason your broiler is stuck on. plug thhe wires back in to the board..... And if you feel comfortable enough plug the power back in. with wires plugged into board sett your meter to volts AC. put them straight accross the broil relay. in a normaly off poistion you should read 120 volts. With a bad broil relay in the off position you will read 0volts. try these things and let me know how it goes.

Broiler won't light

Usually, when an oven won't broil, it's because the broil igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace the igniter or the safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Broiler Stuck On - Want to Disconnect

Yes, you can remove the broiler element. Usually they are just plug in after you unseat them If there are wire leads, you must follow them back and remove them from their terminal. If you follow the lead back to the terminal, you may just remove them with a pair of pliers and pull the burner out.

let me understand, you p[lug in you oven and the broiler will automaticalle start??? not allowing you to cancel???? if that s the case unplug and remove the back panel from tyhe range, sound sas if the wire leading to the broil ignitor has shorted itself against the cabinet of the range itself, look for whiter braided wires at broiler hieght, chances arte they are hitting against hte cabinet right near the vent area.
