Looking for a canon f50 multipass reference manual. Reason: trying to use flatbed scanner to scan - not the automatic document feeder. automatic document feeder works. The article I wish to scan does not go through the ADF. Thanks.

I have the User's Manual for the Canon color bubble jet printer (copier) scanner/Fax MultiPass F 50 printer/scanner.
On pages 59 - 61 I find the instructions for scanning .
Unfortunately, my printer does not work, otherwise I would send you the pages photocopied.
But I have another Canon scanner, and I could scan the pages and send them as an PDF file as an attachment by email.
Would that help?

To use this feature in Windows, a destination must be programmed in the scan setup before scanning to a destination. See Set up the product Scan To button.

Load the originals that are to be scanned face-up in the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray, with the top of the document forward, and adjust the media guides.

Lift the flatbed scanner lid and load the original that is to be scanned face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of the document located in the lower-right corner of the glass. Gently close the lid.

Use the arrow buttons to select a file destination.
Press Start Scan or OK to scan the document to a file.

Scanning to e-mail is supported by any e-mail program that supports the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) protocol. Many versions of popular e-mail programs seem to be MAPI-compliant. See the support information for your e-mail program to determine whether or not it is MAPI-compliant.

Will not scan from glass but feeder will?

Using your scanner program such as PaperPort, you really have to pay attention on where the document/photo is located for scanning.

Steps
1. Click on Start, Programs, Paperport
2. Right above the Word "SCAN", you will have several options on;
a. Document or Photo
b. Flatbed or Feeder
3. Once step 2b has been selected, the M20i will scan your document per your instructions.

Note:#1
If you place your document on Flatbed but your selection on your screen says "Feeder" where do you think the scanner will look for your document? The answer is --> Feeder!!!

Note #2
Make sure that you click Accept,& DONE, other wise M20i will just sit and wait for your next command.

I hope this resolves the confusion between GLASS and FEEDER scanning.

Check document error when I try to fax a document

You should try a copy to see if it prints OK, when the scanner goes out you sometimes get a black page and your fax machine knows it looks like way too much data.

Color cartridge errors

The only reason for getting error "PU IN CARTRIDGE" is that the cartridge is not installed correctly. Follow these steps to reinstall the cartridge which will resolve the problem:

Note: The same step can be performed for error "photo ink in use" but if this does not resolve the issue, you can try and change the cartridge.

Installing / Replacing the BJ Cartridge Follow this procedure to replace the BJ cartridge:
1. Make sure the MultiPASS is plugged in.
2. Open the document tray.
3. Lift the document guides to open the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
c555docguides.gif
If the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) does not open easily, slide the document guides outward and then open the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
Or slide the Document Feed Lever to either the automatic or manual setting.
4. Pressthingtopress.gif. If installing the BJ Cartridge for the first time, skip to step 6.

Caution: Do not try to manually move or stop the cartridge holder since this may damage the unit. Do not touch the components shown or any metal parts since this may adversely affect operation of the unit and/or affect print quality.

The MultiPASS has an automatic protection feature that helps keep it from overheating. If the cartridge holder does not move, unplug the MultiPASS and let it cool for several minutes. Then plug it in again.
Press thingtopress.gifto move the cartridge holder.

5. Raise the blue cartridge lock lever on the cartridge holder and remove the BJ cartridge.

Caution: Discard the old BJ cartridge immediately according to the local laws and regulations for disposal of consumables. You may want to place it in a plastic bag to keep any residual ink from spilling. Spilled ink can stain any surface; protect yourself and your work area. If removing a BJ cartridge to use one of the optional BJ cartridges, be sure to store the BJ cartridge in the container provided with your MultiPASS. Otherwise the ink will dry and affect print quality.

container.gif 6. Remove the new BJ cartridge from its package, then remove the orange protective cap (1) and tape (2).
removetapencap.gif
Caution: Discard the cap and tape. Never attempt to reattach them to the BJ cartridge print head. Install the BJ cartridge immediately after removing the cap and tape. Spilled ink can stain any surface; protect yourself and your work area.
7. With the label facing outward, insert the BJ cartridge into the cartridge holder. Lower the blue cartridge lock lever until it locks into position.
lockinpos.gif 8. Press thingtopress.gif.
The cartridge holder moves to its home position on the right side of the unit and begins cleaning the BJ cartridge print head. This process takes about 55 seconds.

Caution: Do not try to manually move or stop the cartridge holder since this may damage the unit.
9. Close the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
10. Close the document tray.
Note: If you need to unplug the MultiPASS, wait until the unit is in standby mode (date and receive mode displayed in the LCD). Otherwise the cartridge holder may not be in its home position causing the BJ cartridge to remain uncapped and dry out.

Canon MultiPASS F50 won't copy but will scan

Does the copy function work if you place the document to be copied on the platen (open the cover and lay it on the glass)? If so, check the area to the left of the platen. There should be a strip of glass with a clear plastic cover over it. This area is used for scanning when feeding paper through the automatic document feeder (ADF) from the top. This area must be clean. If this area is clean and clear, it's possible that the scanner element (below the glass) is no longer going all the way to the left when using the ADF. This would be a problem that would require servicing.

How do I scan a bunch of originals from the tray and get 1 file for each page?

Loading originals to scan
Use these instructions to load originals into your device for scanning. For the best quality
scans, use the flatbed scanner. See Selecting media for the automatic document feeder
(ADF) for guidelines on choosing original documents for scanning.
Loading originals onto the flatbed scanner
1. Make sure that the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray is free of media.
2. Lift the flatbed scanner lid.
3. Place the original document face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of
the document at the lower-right corner of the glass.
4. Gently close the lid.
5. The document is ready to be scanned.
CAUTION To prevent damaging the device, do not allow the scanner lid to fall onto the flatbed scanner
surface. Always close the scanner lid when the device is not in use.
Loading originals into the automatic document feeder (ADF)
input tray
Note The ADF capacity is up to 50 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) media (depending on the thickness of
the media), or fewer sheets if the stack fills the ADF.
The minimum size for media in the ADF is 127 by 127 mm (5 by 5 inches). For smaller sizes
use the flatbed scanner. The maximum size for media in the ADF is 215.9 by 381 mm (8.5 by
15 inches).
1. Make sure that the flatbed scanner contains no media.
2. Close the flatbed scanner cover and put the top end of the stack of originals into the ADF
input tray, with the media stack face-up and the first page to be scanned on top of the
stack.
3. Slide the stack into the ADF input tray until it does not move any farther.
