Have you tried using a card reader? Card Reader almost always solve problems with downloading images directly from the camera. Remove card from camera and insert into reader, connect reader through USB port and download with free Picasa3 software from Google. Done. Simple. Cheap

I share with my experinces because I haven't got a compatible with my card flash reader.I managed to solve the the problem the other way. Quite simple too. I have changed the driver and used instead of my old wia usb for win xp driver Tw usb driver. Now I have chosen from the my graphic program menu to import files from my A40. With success. Anyway thank you very much. Hope anytime to help you the problem.Best greetings from Poland

How can I load pictures from my Powershot A40 to my computer with Windows 10?

Two ways.

Connecting to the computer via the lead, you should open Windows File Explorer and you will see the storage in the camera as a removable storage

or

you go to the Canon website and get all the software including the download software and add-ons. The Win 7 software should be good on Win 10 and includes ZoomBrowser and PhotoStitch.

I get a message saying USB error on samsung A40 digimax camera when i want to connect to my computer to upload photos

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

If you have a Vista, it is not compatible. It will not download the Zoom browser. I had to purchase a Memory card reader/writer to download pics on my laptop from my camera and by passing the printer.

I have a Canon PowerShot A40 and when I turn it on in the picture taking mode, it flashes E18 and turns off. I can view previous pictures. The lens doesn't open up either. Help!

E18 is a lens error message - Dirt may be in the lens mechanism. Canon can service it, although the camera is no longer in production.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.
