The On Off button is blocked in "pressed" mode...... "off"
The problem happened when I tried to switch off : I pressed the button but the light remained "on". I then removed the batteries....

The camera will need to be taken apart. Then you have 2 choices replace the switch with a new or used part (ebay) or take the pieces out and put the camera back together and reach through the hole with something to push the button on the inside of the camera. The camera is easy to get apart. It has 4 screws, 2 on the bottom and 1 at the USB port and 1 inside the battery door. With the battery door open and screws out pull the back cover loose, be careful the LCD is loose when the cover comes off, just tape it in position to hold it. The rest will be self explanitory.

All of a sudden, my Canon Rebel SLR stopped focusing and I cannot depress the shutter button when on AF mode. I can press the shutter button on MF mode, but there is no focusing happening. Do you think...

Try this...remove the lens and fire off a few shots. Clean the contacts on the lens and camera body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. Re-attach the lens and try it.

You may have protected a block of images at some time, to release them do this:

Press the play mode button and then press the menu button.
Press the left/right button to select the [Protect] menu tab.
Select the desired sub menu [All Pics] by pressing the up/down button then pressing OK.
Zoom W/T Button: Protect/Release the images.
OK Button: Your changes will be saved and the menu will disappear.

Hope this helps.

Cybershot H7 focus problem

Things to check before you assume it is a mechanical issue-you can get vibration message if flash is disabled, be sure also that the macro mode is not enabled-this is very common on sony cameras to turn on by accident-flower button on camera will put in close up mode and you will get blur make sure no flower is present on lcd screen-if in macro press button on camera w/flower to turn off-also in menu you have continuous and monitor auto focus settings try changing one or the other and see what happens
