Question about NetGear DG834G Router
Windows Vista 32bits (Dell Laptop)
Xbox 360 Elite
Netgear Wireless Router DG834G
Network cable plugged XBOX to Laptop: Local Area Connection = OK
Bridged Wireless Connection with Local Area Connection = OK
Xbox Live connection : Failed
Do I need to change or amend some config in the Netgear to hand shake with the XBOX?
Shall I stop all "wireless" equipment in the house (phone, printer,..) before attempting another connection ?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Connect to the Router,
Under the Security tab, select Services, then add, give it the name XBOX TCP/UDP, set start port as 3074 and end port as 3074, set type as TCP/UDP, click apply/ok. Do this again, giving it the name XBOX UDP, start port 88, end port 88, type UDP, then apply settings.
Now go to Firewall under the Configuration tab, under incoming click add, now select the service XBOX UDP/TCP from the drop down menu. select forward to specific IP address or similar and type in your Xbox's IP address e.g. 192.168.1.5, click log never, then apply ok. Do the same for XBOX UDP and your again click apply. That's it! you've successfully opened the necessary ports on your Router and told your Router that any incoming info on those ports should be sent to your Xbox.

Brian, you're wrong. If he can connect to the router but cannot obtain an IP address, he can do all the port forwarding in the world and he will not connect to XBox Live.
What he is saying if you read his post, is that he cannot establish a DHCP session with the router.
This problem is not limited to DHCP with this model of Netgear router. Even if he set a static IP it would not connect to the DG834G. I think you'll find this to be a common problem with the DG834G.
The solution to this is to get another router. Preferably one certified compatible with Xbox.
