Question about KitchenAid KESC307 Electric Kitchen Range

Open Question

Knobs on front of stove. These turn on if leaned against.

I have a kitchen aid stove with the knobs on the front. They are positioned so that if you inadvertantly lean on them, the burner turns on. Most of the time we don't notice the burner is on until it is bright red or something starts burning. Is there any device that we can put on these knobs to keep them from turning on when leaned against?

SOURCE: kitchen aid stove problem

Peter, sure you cut power to the stove before you do anything. This is 220 volts and it can kill you. 220 Volts is based on two different lines of power coming to the stove, each of which is 110 volts...but opposite each other in phase. This may mean that some power to the stove is on and some is not. Let's go on.

I suspect a few things: First, the coil control for the burner is probably finished. What I also suspect is that it opened one of the two breakers (they are usually tied together in the panel and are either 40/50/60 amp units) causing some lights but no action.

What to do: Reset the breakers as a pair by turning them off and on. If one snaps off, you have a problem at the stove. If not,...which I're in business.

Let's look at replacing the control. Shut the breakers. Now, take the burned control and remove it. Note the wiring positions if they are not on a plug. If they are terminals, tape the ends. Now, reset those breakers. If the other burners work, replace the control. Take the old one to the parts store. If it doesn't work, look around the burned area for broken wires. Repair and tape them up. Try again. Oh, and don't let anyone touch the stove while you're working with those breakers.

SOURCE: I need metal replacement stove knobs.

The plastic knobs melted on my new LG stove the first time I used the broiler. It is a Model LRG 30355ST. I called their service number (1-800-984-7469) and they were very sorry but I would just have to order new plastic knobs. They also advised me that I should have purchaced an extended warranty. Maybe I will just purchace another brand next time.

SOURCE: Front right burner knob will not activate the sparking

You are correct, on most Kitchen Aid units the switches come as an assembly of all 4 with the wiring, I would have to have your exact model number to be sure but most often you cannot replace just the one switch.

SOURCE: We have a Kitchen Aid

It just happened to me too, just after cleaning the stove. Water apparently got into the switch (under the knob). Dried out in half day, and now is fine.

Take the knobs off and look inside. Compare them to the good knobs for any differences. reseat them back on and try pushing the knobs in while turning. It may be a child safety feature.
