Have you tryed reseting the router. unplug for at least 30 seconds and then plug back in. see what happens then let me know. I know you might have already tryed this but I want to go through all the steps to rule everything out.

hope this helps.

If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem then - To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards and wireless adapters in all the laptops/computers needs tobe configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSLor cable modem.

I have a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter and a Cisco/Linksys WRT54GS Router. The signal is extremely poor even though the router is only 10 feet away. It does not appear to be an interference issue.

Hi,
You can update the Linksys Firmware to a newer version if is available, please check the Linksys support site
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54GS
Another chance is to change the Wireless Channel maybe 11, to avoid any intereference with wireless phones.

Well, actually... it might help to turn the router off and then on again. Sometimes power-cycling the router can reset it, which might need to be done. I'm a big fan of the power-cycle; it works for all sorts of obscure problems.

Once the router is on again, use the laptop and adapter to check for wireless networks. If you still can't find a network, disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of the desktop computer, and try the wireless adapter with the desktop PC. If it works, the problem is with the laptop (possibly a power supply problem). If it doesn't work, the problem is either the adapter or the router.

Ideally you should then try your adapter with a friend's router. Eventually you will discover whether the router is playing up or whether the adapter is faulty.

In my (admittedly still limited) experience, connection problems are rarely about faulty equipment and more usually about incorrect settings, so it might also be worth running the New Connection Wizard from Network Connections in the Control Panel.

Good luck!

Help connect to internet

Is there any other computer on line.
If laptop is the only computer then connect the laptop to the router with the cable and check if that works.
If you have other computer on line then you will need to check if your laptop is connected to the wireless network.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your network is secured then make sure that you are typing the correct network key.
also make sure that the DHCP server is enabled on the router.
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

I have an old laptop and this wireless g card do I need a router or can this work at any hotspot

If you are going to connect to someone elses WiFi service which is also known as a Hotspot you are good to go.

Once your adapter "sees" the network the only thing you need to do is connect. Some Hotspots will have open access and some will have secure access where you will have to enter an access code to connect.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Don't need to reset the router. IF you reset the router you will loose the connection on the wired computer also.
So your laptop is not able to go online. but your desktop is able to go online that means there must be a problem with the wireless connection.Check the wireless settings on the router.

Linksys WRT54gs router not seen by Mac

The firmware from Linksys doesn't work. Don't waste your time. Maybe the following freeware from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm could help. "LSP-Fix" is a utility to repair a loss of Internet access by repairing the LSP chain by removing the entries left behind when LSP software is removed or altered by malware or spyware remover. Sometimes ZoneAlarm does the damage as well when blocking intruders. Hope it works for you.

I can not get my wireless adapter to work on my laptop

First you need to connect the wireless router to your desktop computer through an RJ45 Cable and setup a new wireless network. to do this you go to control panal you'll find (Wireless Network Setup icon) click on it and go through the process, when you get to "network key" select automatically assign a network key then select setup my network manually and next, then finish. once you do that, now you have a wireless network. connect the wireless usb dongle to the laptop and download necessary drivers for it once it shows on the little icons on the bottom right of the screen right click on it and it should have an option to enable the it. if not, then the dongle has the wrong driver installed or its faulty. once its enabled, go to my network places and choose wireless network and click search for wireless networks, you should find your Router's network, select it and click connect and that should be all.

let me know if you need more help and try to give me error messages and steps you did before, so i can help you. good luck !!!

D-link wireless

If the D-Link was new out of the box, it should not have the security set.
You need to do a reset on it, It will be reset to the factory specs.
Look on the back of the router. There you will see a small opening next to where the power plugs in. The reset button is recessed in that opening.
Take a paper clip and hold the reset button in for about 30 secs. The lights will go solid and then blink. Then take the power connector out wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
You should be able to get on line afterward.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
