The error message that you have encountered indicates a communication error
between
the scanner and your PC. This is likely to be because the particular memory
address is being used by another device or program. e.g. a T.S.R. program.
Please follow the procedures below to help identify the problem:
1. Please ensure that the lock on the underside of the scanner is set to the
"Unlocked" (Open Padlock) Position.
2. Please ensure that the parallel cable you are using is the one that came
with the scanner. Please check that it is securely attached to both ports
and that it is not damaged in any way.
3. Please ensure that your parallel port is set to ECP Mode in the BIOS of
your computer.
4. Please try setting the parallel port to an alternative memory address
from within the printer port Device Manager Resources options.
5. It may be that your printer (including Canon Windows Printing System
Printers) is causing the error message. To confirm this please disable your
printer driver and then attempt to scan. To do this please go to
Start/Settings/Printers. Click on the icon of your printer, click File and
Properties. Click Details and set your port from "Lpt1" to "File" then click
on "Port Settings" and remove the check marks from both boxes. Click OK,
click Apply, click OK again. Then try scanning. If this fails to resolve the
problem we would suggest that you remove/uninstall your printer driver,
restart Windows and then try to scan.
6. If this still fails to resolve the problem you can try changing the
parallel port to (EPP ECP/EPP OR SPP depending on your operating system).
You can then try changing the parallel port address to one of the other
available options again dependant on your operating system.
7. This is a problem relating to the set up of the Pc not the scanner.
