Chirping sound 2003 Alero makes a very irritating chirping sound. I know it's coming from one of the belts. The dealership I bought it at replaced the belt and I've used conditioner. That helped but it's still there and very annoying. Could it be the pulley the belt is on? As far as I know and can tell, it does not affect the actual driving of the car - it runs great and I have had no problems with it!

Start with the AC , when the sound starts, turn off the AC and see if it goes away. If that works, you have a problem with the AC compressor pulley. Check the other pulleys by taking the belt out and turning the pulleys one by one and seeing if it makes noise. Let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: broken a/c compressor

it depends what you want to do. you can take the compressor right out and run a smaller belt.,if it will allow that,or replace it if you want air conditioning.

SOURCE: How do you change a serpentine belt on a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero?

Brute force - you have to pry up the tensioner pulley. The way we did it was put the belt over the alternator and A/C compressor, and get it back in place around the main bearing pulley. Then we took a bar and forced up the tensioner and slid the belt over the main bearing pulley. Voila . . .

Chirping noise when accelerating

If it is a belt noise, sprinkling baby powder on the belt will make the noise go away. Apply liberaly with engine off onto the belt and start the vehicle. The belt may have gotten coolant on it and this will cause the chirp. Also a defective belt tensioner will cause the belt to chirp

PT Criuser has been running hot and now makes a loud chirping sound when cranked up . What causes this ?

my guess is your water pump is not working properly and the loud chirping sound is from the serpentine belt which also runs the water pump, alternator, ac and steering pump. first thing to check is coolant the cooling fan , thermostat , water pump in this order. chirping sound definitely come from the belt but the cause could come from any of the driven part but im zeroing in on the water pump because the car is running hot. old belt could also cause the chirping.

2003 Saturn ion. Auto started cherping when radio is on, why?

does the chirping sound seem to come from the engine compartment? if so, turning on the radio may put a larger strain on the alternator. if your belt is old or the tensioner is going bad that extra strain could be enough to make the belt chirp.

96 Oldsmobile Bravada Engine Chirp

The water pump can also make the chirping noise. You can place a very long screwdriver or metal rod against the pump & place your ear to the end of it to localize the sound. A stethoscope is very helpful, if possible.

1999 ford expedition make noise when idle but stop when pickup speed. make a chirping sound when idle .i check pulleys & belt (ok) disconnect belt but still make chirping sound

Might be your water pump. Check for drips of antifreeze
Usually the bottom of the pump has a weep hole and the 1st sign besides the noise is antifreeze dripping from the weep hole

Recently bought a 2003 Chevy Malibu. Great car. A couple of days ago it started making a "chirping" sound when in the car and more of a light click when you're outside. It's under the hood but couldn't...

well the chirp sounds like a belt problem but the light click is usualy the lifters try using a higher grade of gas,and hope its not a berring going in the water pump.

Loud chirping sound

spray some wd40 on the pulley or you can spray belt dressing on the belt. It may be another pulley that needs a lubrication job
