Screen fault, needs new one but if it doesn't happen to an external one.

hook up a normal pc screen to the side vga and see if the same is there, if the same then it's possibly the refresh rate is too high or a motherboard issue

Laptop will boot up but only shows color lines/pixels

If you get the same thing with an externe monitor then your Video card is dead. sometimes it's separate from the motherboard, if it's the case it might cost you 150 USD to replace it (used on ebay). If not sell it for parts...

My acer laptop screen has ''coloured lines'' on it's screen, how did this happen?

LCD suffer from wear and tear just like anything else. LCD can simply fail. Also heavy impact or applying to much pressure to the screen and damage the capacitors and transistors that control display of color on the screen.

Lines can form when adjacent pixels are damaged and sorta of join together this way ll or multiple pixels are recieving a voltage in either a horizontal or vertical line or even in a bing blob on your screen.

If you are developing lines on your screen you will need to get it replaced or replace it yourself if you can, as screens tend to be several hundred dollars just for the part

Blue vertical line

The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly:
JSScreenfix.com has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.

If your laptop is still under warranty, get it replaced. If not you are looking at the most expensive part in a laptop to get replaced. (LCD screens on laptop is roughly equivalent to 40-60% of the total laptop cost

Laptop screen

you may have damaged the screen itself... did you hear anything breaking or did the monitor itself bend.
there is a possibility that you have pulled the connector for the screen partially loose. disassembly is required to confirm that. and attach the cable properly.
I'm hoping you have a dell as they seem to have excellent manuals on their site for disassembly instructions.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers. If this doesn't work, it's likely that the LCD control board or cable is damaged.
