Thank you so much. I will check that.

I have a GE GSS22SGMBBS side by side refrigerator with the same symptoms. The refrigerator is at the highest (coldest) setting but is warm. The freezer is also starting to warm near the top (at the icemaker) and the entire back panel has ice crystals on it (i.e. the defrost system has failed). I went to the GE website and the parts diagram shows I have a "Defrost Thermostat" (P/N WR50X10068, $14.50) and a "Heater and Bracket ASM" (P/N WR51X10101, $54.00).

When you refer to the "Defrost Timer" is this the same as the "Defrost Thermostat"? My "Defrost Thermostat" is electronic and I have a meter to check it. What voltages should I see?

My refrigerator had the same problems as described by johnwhagen. three weeks ago, I changed a part that goes in the back... the bemetal. It started working fine (of course, because when we replaced the part we defrosted it) and we thought it was fixed but over the weekend it started having problems again: the top part of the freezer was warmer, the bottom was frozen and in the refrigerator top was very warm and bottom cooler but not cold. Anyway...I turned it off yesterday, defrosted it and back on. The freezer is freezing again but the fridge is set to 8 and feels like a 4 or 5. I HEAR the fan in the freezer but not in the fridge...is there supposed to be a fan there? also where exactly is located the timer?

I defrost the freezer and open the insideback panel everything all clean and restarted it. It only get cold enough in the bottom, but the coil system got frosted quickly. The fan in the back seems to work well. Please tell me what kind of meter do I need to have or where I can buy it. and where can I find the defrost timer.
    Thank you

Freezer side not cold enough, similar temperature as Refrigerator side

It could be many things. My first guess would be the defrost. The coil that gets cold in your freezer builds ice on it and the only way to get the ice off is to run a heater near the coil long enough for the ice to melt. All freezers have something built in to defrost and domestic are typically just an electric heater on a timer. When your freezer stops working again, you may want to pull open the panel of your freezer and see if your coil (a heat exchanger that probably looks a lot like your car radiator) is covered in ice. If it is, it could be the timer or the actual heater that is bad.

You will need to see if you run the self diagnostics found in the=> Service Manual The problem with the damper could be caused by a defective thermistor, ice build up or just a defective damper. Your model uses the=> WR09X10050 Damper with Thermistor Assembly Running diagnostics wil help you to locate the problem better if you can read and do the from the Service Manual. On my Maytag side by side, stainless steel fridge, Model #: MSD2651KES. The freezer works perfectly, but the fridge will not get cold, but if you open the freezer it will start sending cold air to the...

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Freezer is warm at top and cold on the bottom.

Sounds as tho your evap fan is not running. Open door to freezer and should hear a fan running smoothly. If not most of the time the problems is with the main control board on back of refrigerator.

Eterna series side by side ice maker doesn't make ice

Hi: . In the warm weather your freezer can warm. I don't mean just frozen. Your freezer has to be at 0 degrees to harvest ice. Ice cream should be rock hard. Set your freezer colder and don't trust cheap thermometers. Also don't do the human thing and check the freezer every 30 minutes to see if ice is made. It will take 24hrs at zero degrees and opening the freezer a lot will not help matters. Hope this helps, Jeff This happens to me every summer. The ice maker will stop or slow.

Frigidaire Frig side by side making a loud buzzing noise

it sounds like the compressor, or something near it. it is generally the only moving part in a refrigerator other than the door, so would be my first guess. If it is constantly running, but staying cool in the freezer there may be a small leak somewhere or the compressor is losing power, and pumping slower.
