#2-07 Error Help! I shut off my computer this weekend and when I turned it back on, it came up with an error. It will not go past the black screen with this message on it! I got into some screen and gave a test on it and it came up with the above error. I have Norton etc so it cant be a virus. It is only 3 years old. Any advice on what to do?

It says there is a system configuration error and to try and put a disk in to fix the probem. But the computer did not come with back up disks, the information all set did not the disks as it would fix itself if there was ever an problem. But it cant fix itself because it wont get past that black screen. I hit a few buttons to get into another screen where it let me run a test which is where I found this error. It beeps when certain buttons are hit.

If I need a new hard drive would I even need to bother getting the disks? Seems I need to get a new computer anyways :( Please also if you could tell me of a good decently priced computer I could purchase in its place :(

Firstly, just because you have norton does not mean it can't be a virus. that the only thing that appears on the screen? Do you hear it beep?

Okay, further research on this error says that the #2-07 error is a hard drive error. Unfortunately, your hard drive will need to be replaced. Even more unfortunate is since your computer did not ship with system recovery disks, you will need to order those from HP (around $30).

I'm sorry for the unfortunate news, but please give this solution a rating of fixya even if the news wasn't what you wanted to hear. And if I can be of further assistance, let me know. Thanks.

Normally for my customers if all they need is a new drive and the computer is only 3 years old, I would recommend doing that. A new drive costs around $70 or so depending on what size you get plus the system recovery CD's so you've got about $100 wrapped up in it. Even if you were to hire a tech to do it for you, you'd have around $200 in it. Or you can purchase a new laptop for around $500 or so....problem is they all come with Vista on it. I can sell you one for $599 and I put XP on it for you, comes with a 1 year warranty and will be much faster than what you have now but if you are satisfied with the performance of your old laptop, replacing the hard drive is a cost effective solution.

I have a dell 1735 studio laptop. When I turn it on I have only a black screen. I'am able to do a diagnostic and I am getting an error code 2000-0146, but I can't get past the black screen.

Hello here is some info about your dell:

Error 0146 indicates a failed/failing hard drive or bad drive sector.
Basically, this means your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Even more here:

Here is the home page:

A computer repair shop can help you with recover your data if is not damaged by the bad sectors.

I recomend to change the system to windows 7 (32bit) because the support for vista is out by this year.

Good luck

My computer (satellite l515) will not load past the forest screen when you turn it on. (The black screen that says Toshiba) how do I fix this.

Re seat hard drive, and memory. tap F8 while the laptop is booting to go the safe mode. If it boots in to safe mode, you can run "Error checking" by clicking on computer> C: drive> properties> tools> error checking. Follow on screen instructions from there.

In your operating system it may have a different name. Please rate this information high if it was of help. thanks

Compaq NX9020. Turned it on and got a black screen with "Disk Read error press Ctrl-Alt-del to restart". Tried this and got back to same screen. Entered BIOS and ran a disk check and got "#1-07 Fail". Is...

Try restarting the computer - watch at the bottom of the screen for an F command to enter setup - once in setup, go through each file menu and press F9 to set default settings. Do the same on the Exit Menu. Then, Exit and Save Settings.

If this does not help, you're best option will be to re-install from the installation disk. (or follow repair instructions on disk).

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Try starting it in safe mode. (Hold F8 after power on). If you get your icon screen go to start, run and type in msconfig. Click startup and disable all the items. Hit OK and try a normal restart. This error can be caused by a bad program starting up.
