Question about Dell Optiplex 755 Ultra Small Form Factor Intel Celeron Processor 430 1.8GHz, 512K, 800... PC Desktop

Dual monitors can't extend desktop

I have a DVI splitter, connecting 2 monitors to my 755
with both connected, when i click "identify monitors" under the display settings in control panel, both are listed as "1"
if i select the 2nd monitor and check the "extend desktop..." box and click apply, it auto-unchecks the box, so both monitors remain as mirrors of each other...
any ideas why i cant save the extend desktop setting???

Connecting Two Monitors
Use the cable adapter to connect a VGA monitor and a DVI monitor to the DVI-I connector on the back panel.

When you connect two monitors, the video driver will detect this connection and activate the multimonitor functionality.
This is the only way to enable extended display. If you use a standard splitter and connect two DVI montors, the display will only be mirrored.

Using the splitter i can not get windows 7 to recognize the other monitor and enable multiple monitors

Hello there,
As you've said you're using a display splitter, the result will be identical screen on both monitors. splitters main function is to split VGA signals into N of outputs. where N=number of outputs. no matter how many monitors you attach to your splitter, the windows only recognize monitors attached directly to your video card. Windows requires a video card that has two or more output VGA or DVI outputs to get second extended monitor or display link device.
If you're video card has two outputs follow the instruction below.
1. plug the VGA or DVI other cable on the unused port. 2. power on the second monitor. 3. right click on the desktop, click screen resolution.
pcsyke_68.jpg

4. click the display in gray, Multiple Displays: it depends on the user.
pcsyke_69.jpg
5. I selected extended display. 6. apply and ok.
pcsyke_70.jpg

This spreads your desktop over both monitors and lets you drag items between the two screens. This is how most people use two monitors, and it's the default setting for desktop computers. you can use your mouse to grab the title bar (the top portion) of a window and drag it to your new display.

Hopefully this information is helpful. Thank you for using FixYa..

How can we connect two moniters to one cpu

To have and use 2 monitors at the same time, you need a video card with a dual VGA outputs.

To use 1 monitor at the time you can buy a VGA switcher, to switch between the 2 monitors.

Best of Luck

I just got the Gigaware 2 port usb powered vga splitter and I have ywo monitors connected. Both monitors show the same thing but I want to extend the desktop across both screens, however Windows XP does...

A display splitter will only mirror the screens, you cannot extend the desktop via a splitter.

Most portables cannot support dual monitors without a docking station.

I have 1widescreen 28'' monitor and want to add two 22'' monitors

Connect one monitor to the second DVI-output port.
Connect one monitor to the S-video output port.

Right-mouse-click anywhere on your desktop "wallpaper".
Click Properties.
Click Desktop.
You should see 3 icons -- one for each display.
Drag-and-drop the icons so that their position
matches the physical layout of your 3 monitors.

Click "extend my desktop onto this monitor".

How to connect Samsung 40" LCD tothe eMachine desktop T2615. It looks like there is only one connection for a monitor? The computer is about 6 years old.

Older LCD TV's have a variety of inputs, one of them being VGA, to connect to your PC. The problem seems to be that you either connect your PC to its own monitor, OR to the TV, but not both? If that's the case, you may have a couple of alternatives:
The most expedient one would be to get a VGA splitter cable; the other, more expensive: replace your video card with one that has dual outputs: either one with two DVI ports; one with one DVI port and one VGA port; or one with one DVI port and one HDMI port. As you can tell, there are several possibilities, depending on the connectors available on your TV.
Good luck!

More monitors with one system unit

If the video card has 2 ports (Normally 1 VGA and 1 DVI, though some now have 2 DVI) then you can use 2 monitors.

Once connected, go to display properties, click monitor #2 and check "Extend my Desktop to this monitor" Click OK

Dual Monitor

To arrange multiple monitors
This procedure applies when two or more monitors are connected to one computer.
  1. Open shortcutcold.gifDisplay in Control Panel.
  2. On the Settings tab, click Identify to display a large number on each of your monitors, showing which monitor corresponds with each icon.
  3. Click the monitor icons and drag them to positions that represent how you want to move items from one monitor to another, and then click OK or Apply to view changes.
note.gif Notes
  • To open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  • The icon positions determine how you move items from one monitor to another. For example, if you are using two monitors and you want to move items from one monitor to the other by dragging left and right, place the icons side by side. To move items between monitors by dragging up and down, place the icons one above the other. The icon positions do not have to correspond to the physical positions of the monitors. You can place the icons one above the other even though your monitors are side by side.
