Burned Copper Bottom Pot on Glass Stove Top. This left a ''melted'' portion of the pot on the glass. Any ideas on how to remove the melted residue?

Thanks Bob, at least now I can stop trying. I did look at the manual, and oddly Copper Bottom pots are recommended, however it does state that the copper can 'melt' if you let the pot get to hot. Thanks again for your answer.

Sorry to say no , if you try to peal it off or scrape ot off you will crack the cooktop . this keeps happening i have seen it at around 4 times for some reason revere ware melts . there should be a warning in the manual ( i know ge does have the warning about copper bottoms ) . replaceing the cooktop or the whole stove is the only "true" answer .... sorry .....Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . A 1 or 2 may knock me down into the unpaid ranks. Thanks Cactus Bob

Pot stuck to cooktop

Did you find that it was stuck after it had cooled off? A vacuum was probably created between the pot and the glass top. You could try twisting the pot, leaving it for a while, or heating it up again.

I was cooking popcorn on my glass cooktop and the pan appears to have scratched to surface.

You may have melted the bottom of the pan you were using into the glass. Copper bottom and alum pans sholdnot be used at high temps on a glass top. (never use porclin or glass pots)High temps can etch(mark or discolor) the glass.

Whrlpool Electric Stove Top Burners

this is a ceramic top i am guessing.
this is normal, it isthe way it is designed.
it does this so that it does not cause a heat fracture to the glass.. it will continue to turn on and off.. but if you put a pot of cold water on it you will find that this will happen alot less frequently.

Broke glass on electric genn-air

Please do not use the stove if the element is viable because of broken glass, this could become a danger to yourself.

Look at the cost of a new stove, you should be able to get one for
around 400.00. One of my customers had a glass top with 4 burners,
they had the same thing happen, the cost to replace the top was
1,200.00. So I would assume that you can get a new stove with 4
burners less then it would cost to replace the part on a stove you don't like. Maybe there is a LOWES around you to look at stoves,
they seem to be everywhere, like death and taxes.

As for putting a 4 burner top on a stove that has 2 with grill, I don't think it can be done without the extra cost of adding the parts to run the other 2 burners, so like I said in the long run,it just might be cheaper to but a new stove. It should not be a big deal to remove the exhaust from the grill part of the stove.

I looked at the model# you put down, and it does not have a grill,
from what I see, there are 4 burners and a downdraft vent in between the 4 burners, there are 6 models with this part # and none have a grill, only the downdraft vent.

If the model# is right, the cost would be around 300.00 for the glass, and then the cost of having it replaced. So I would say over
400.00, In which case for the same amount you could have a new one, but you must weigh the difference for yourself and see what you think is the best way to go.
If you have any more questions, please post back and everyone is more than willing to help you. I hope I have helped a little.

CAN YOU USE CAST IRON SKILLETS ON RADIANT GLASS COOK TOPS?

you CAN use the skillet, but not with great results id assume, it holds too much heat, and problaby a bit too rough underneath and would probably scratch the glass top, in a family business for over 20 yrs. now and thats my recomendation, my brother also in the same feild swears his wife uses it with no issues!!!

Just bought a house, no manuals

After a pot spillover, the cleanup process triggered my stove top to "control lock"

I removed the pot and once the stove top cooled I pressed and held the "control lock" button.

It began to blink, I released it and then the light went off and the stove top operated normally.

You might not have to wait for the stove top to cool. I don't know.
