Hi peter
There can be two solutions for this the first one will just give you the basics and the second will give the insight into fireware failure as i think it is and its solution
1>Please do put the OEM cd of your camera in the coffee tray of the mac book.
2>Drag and drop it on your desktop . It should automatically get installed .
3>If everything goes well click on finder icon or check on your desktop
4> You'll see an icon there which will say that it is installed
Now if your NV-MX500B Mini DV Digital Camcorder which is a bus-powered FireWire devices dosen't appear in menus or behave correctly which i guess are the causes
1>The device probably came with an external power supply, and is demanding more power that the FireWire standard provides through the bus. This issue can also appear if a number of FireWire devices are plugged in to the same bus and demand more power than the bus provides.
Solution
1>Be sure always to use the power supply if one came with a FireWire product. If you are connecting more than one device, use a self-powered FireWire hub or switch.

Note :--MacBook Pro computers supply 1.5 Amps of power at 12 Volts. One port may provide up to 14 Watts of power if nothing is connected to the other port. If both ports are in use, their maximum power output is 7 Watts per port.

This should help as far as my experience goes . And please let me know

Open the imovie in your mac and try to import video from the camera, some cameras show no sign of life but still work in imovie.

Let me know how that goes, and if you don't have imovie I suggest you get it from here http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/

here is the user manual for the camera
http://www.panasonic.ch/doc/1401_1500/1437/userguide/userguide_2_nv-mx500eg_-.pdf

a driver is available at
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/e_cam/download/downdvc_usb.html

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

the driver is for windows based computers. please use bootcamp or similiar program to run windows on your computer, install the driver and use windows movie maker to edit the video, should work perfectly.

This camera should also work fine with mac I noticed the manual mentioned about something windows media player for mac

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

    see if it helps-

You need the bundled USB driver to install this camera.

There is a download for the driver here, but I do not know if it is also for mac, as the page does not mention the operative system.

If the camera does not have Mac driver, you will need to connect on Windows using emulation mode.

    Here the link:

Once the driver is installed , it will work with all software, I will see if Panasonic has a different download available.

I did not find any alternative download for mac. Only USB Driver Update Program

The only way to transfer on mac is by using firewire, all forums are saying the same.

Hello, could you advice where I could purchase Panasonic NV-GS150 DV Camera MAC OSX 10.5 Support? I cannot connect my Panasonic NV-GS150 DV camera with my MacBook Pro. Thanks a lot for your help!...

Panasonic usually includes the Mac software program "Imagemixer 3" that imports the videos/photos you have on your camera. If the software isn't included with your camera, try Googling around for the program and it should come right up! I hope this helps. - Omn1cide

I have a Panasonic NV-GS22 Camera and I don't know what wire I need to connect it into the computer. I think it is a fire wire but I don't know what port I need to put it into on my computer.

This type of camera usually downloads video over a Firewire (DV, IEEE1394) connection. Some mini-DV cameras have a USB connection but it is used only for stills.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card. If you have a MAC, you may already have a port.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My Samsung mini-DV camera came with the correct lead. I did not need a driver, just some sort of video editing software that can accept input. Even Windows Movie Maker that ships with Windows will work.

Panasonic NV GS25GN How to download from camera's tape to a new iMac OSX? Do I need special drivers? My iMac has a firewire 800 connector (not a 400).

I expect that Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with 400. You just need a cable with the appropriate connectors on each end. The Mac surely comes with the drivers already installed.

How it works with my mini-DV recorder (on a PC) is that when I fire up the video editing software, it sees the camera as a source and can control it from the computer to rewind and download. The book says use the mains power adapter to make sure the camera stays powered.

Where can I get panasonic nv-gs11eb drivers for mac?

There are no drivers needed- you need to use the DV output (which is actually just a mini firewire 400 port) the other end of this cable is a full sized 6-pin firwire 400 cab;e that should slot into any mac (pre 2009 when some changed to the bigger firewire 800 ports). You cant use the USB. to capture the video, I use final cut pro athlough I'm sure imovie will let you do it.

Panasonic digiatal camera nv-ds65

give me your address and I will mail cd to you .
You need to use a fire wire cable and connect it to the computer. (of course you need to install the driver for the camera first).
After connecting the camera turn it on and youse any film making software to capture the movie from the camera and put it on the computer.
