Are you running Windows Server 2000?

If so - this is a well known problem with 2000.

When you have a server running Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or Dynamic DNS (DDNS), the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service may not function correctly or may cause some services to stop working. In addition, various error messages may be displayed.

To resolve this issue, do not run the ICS service on a DHCP or DDNS server. NAT (which is installed using routing protocols in the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) snap-in) works correctly if you do not enable the DNS Proxy service or the DHCP allocator.

I forgot admin password

To reset the SWS (SyncThru Web Service) password:

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Press the right or left arrow until Network appears, then press OK.
  3. Press the right or left arrow until Clear Settings appears, then press OK.
  4. Select Yes and press OK.
  5. After the printer finishes clearing the network settings, unplug it for a few seconds then plug it in again.
  6. All network settings (including the SWS password) will be reset. If you had manually configured IP info or were connected to a wireless network, you will need to re-enter those settings now.
  7. The login will default back to admin and the password will be sec00000.

Note: If you did not change your password or this is your first time trying to use the SyncThru service, the default SyncThru user/password is admin/sec00000.

Enable ICS on a windows Vista Home Premium Machine(Dell)

- Configuration on the machine that is connected to the internet.Firstly make sure that firewall on the machine is configured to allow ICMP and access to HTTP / HTTPS. Also make sure that the port 80 is opened on the firewall
To enable ICS perform the below steps - Identify the Dial-up connection that has to be shared - Right Click on the Dialup connection and go to properties, in the sharing tab enable ICS and choose the connection through which you would share the internet to your network.
- Configuration on the Client Machines
Connect the other computer to this one
You should be good to go now.
* I am assuming that you are not using a router or a hub, it is a direct connection.

I have switched from cable to AT and T for internet service. I want to use theLinksys I had been using with cable to go wireless. but I don't know how to do it. Also. I don.t know the password.

Reset your router to manufacturer's settings by pressing with a small pin the hole found at the rear of the router. It is labeled "reset".

When the router is reset to default setting, connect the router to a computer and visit http://192.168.1.1 to configure it. By default, username = admin and password = <blank> or no password. If no password don't work, try the password "admin". So username = admin and password = admin.

You you reach the configuration field, you need to enter the configuration settings provided by your ISP (AT&T) to connect to their internet services. Most likely, you will be using a dynamic IP address (DHCP Enabled) for home users or a static IP for business users. But these information you can get from AT&T.

When all is set, try connecting to the internet and try if your wireless router is broadcasting wifi.

Reset your router to manufacturer's settings by pressing with a small pin the hole found at the rear of the router. It is labeled "reset".

When the router is reset to default setting, connect the router to a computer and visit http://192.168.1.1 (linksys router) or http://192.168.0.1 (d-link router) to configure it. By default, username = admin and password = <blank> or no password. If no password don't work, try the password "admin". So username = admin and password = admin.

Once you can connect to the internet, configure your wireless network in the router's configuration page to broadcast with encryption. Use WPA or WPA2 or the like in your encryption protocol. Make sure that you configure your laptop for WPA or WPA2 also for them to communicate.

When all is set, try connecting to the internet and try if your wireless router is broadcasting wifi internet.

One static IP has internet. how on a LAN?

Hi,

You need two network adopters in your system.
Connect Internet connection in first Network card and from the other network card give it to your Switch or hub
If you are using XP system you can use Internet connection sharing to share the internet in your LAN systems.
Follow the steps to enable using ICS

1.Enable Internet Connection sharing in the LAN properties in the first network card.
2.Now your second network card automatically get an IP address in the range of 192.168.*.* series
3.Connect other systems in the LAN and make sure the system has selected Optain IP atomatically from DHCP.

You are all set.

There is also an advanced way to setup this .
Install IPCOP firewall in a system with two network cards and u can share the internet with the firewall settings

Losing internet connection when enabling ICS on the wireless network connection

Do not enable ICS on any of the computers that are connected to a router regardless if it's wired or wireless, you only need to enable ICS is if you don't have a router/server on your network(the purpose of a router is to share a single internet connection from your ISP). To connect your computer wirelessly to the router(on a Windows XP computer given that you do not have a 3rd party Wi-fi application installed) is to right click on wireless network connection on the System Tray(lower right hand side of the computer's Desktop near where the clock is) or you can do it the hard way by going to Control Panel then Network Connections and choose view available wireless network and under the list of available network that your computer can detect, select the network name(also called SSID) of your wireless router and try to connect(of course if you enabled Wi-fi security you also need to key-in the security key(WEP/WPA) you configured on your router and that's it both wired and wireless computer/devices connected to the router should work at the same time.

Wireless internet

These Linksys (pronounced "link-sis") routers can be reset and then reconfigured. Inserting the end of a paper clip or pen tip into the small hole marked "Reset" on the back of the router will delete all settings and allow you to re-configure your network. There are other ways to "sniff" for the password, but this enters a gray area which is covered by many other hacking websites.
Alternately, if you have had a Geek Squad Agent set up your internet, you can call 1-800-GEEKSQUAD (800-433-5778) and ask them to look up your records for the password. You should also contact this number to schedule an appointment if you need file and printer-sharing enabled or need help re-establishing your network.
Linksys also has support on their website or by phone.

Wireless security

Hello sir,

GETTING STARTED How to Physically Connect the D-Link
1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "WAN" port on the D-Link.
2. Using an Ethernet cable, plug any wired computers into any of the 4 Ethernet ports on the D-Link.
How to Access the D-Link Configuration Screen
The D-Link is configured using a Web browser. After you have connected your computer to the D-Link router, follow these steps:
1. Launch your Web browser. Enter "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar and press the "Enter" or "Return" key.
2. A logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.
3. Click "OK". A D-Link configuration screen will appear. All changes to the D-Link configuration are made here.

GENERAL SECURITY MEASURES
Change the Admin password
Leaving the password blank is not a good idea. It should be changed to something more secure. To change the password, go to the D-Link configuration screen and:
1. Click the "Tools" tab.
2. Click the "Admin" button.
3. Under the "Administrator" heading, enter the new password, and a second time to confirm.
4. Click "Apply".
5. The next time you access the D-Link configuration screen, you will need to enter the new Admin password.
Disable the Wireless LAN
If wireless access is not necessary, you should disable the wireless part of the D-Link. This will prevent anyone from accessing the network wirelessly. (If you are using the wireless features, please skip down to "Wireless Security Measures".) From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Click the "Disabled" button next to "Wireless Radio".
4. Click "Apply".
5. You are done securing your wired network. No further action is required.

WIRELESS SECURITY MEASURES
Enable WEP
Enabling WEP* (Wired Equivalent Privacy) will require anyone wishing to access the Internet through your wireless network to enter a password. After the correct password is entered, a connection is established, and all data sent from the D-Link to the computer and back is encrypted. From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Click the "Open System" button next to "Authentication".
4. Set the "WEP Encryption" to "128 bit".
5. Set the "Key Type" to "ASCII".
6. Type a 13 digit password into "Key 1".
7. Click "Apply".
8. When you connect to your wireless network from a computer, you will need to enter the 13 digit password.
*Note: If your computer's operating system supports it, enabling WPA-PSK is more secure than WEP. The steps above can be modified to set up WPA-PSK.
Change the SSID
By default, the D-Link is set to advertise the existence of your wireless network to computers. It does this by broadcasting an SSID (Service Set Identifier), also called a "network name" because it identifies your wireless network. Changing the SSID makes it easier for you to distinguish your network from surrounding networks. From the D-Link configuration screen:
1. Click the "Home" tab.
2. Click the "Wireless" button.
3. Change the "SSID" from "default" to an SSID of your choice.
4. Click "Apply".

Please don't forget to comment this

Good luck
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!
